Well it sounds like your on the right track now.



Keep an eye open for leaks and check the radiator level every so often. I think I would trace the overflow bottle and hose too and make sure they're well connected and in good shape. I put a small hose clamp on mine at the radiator because it seemed to be working it's way off the connector... .

I would replace the Radiator cap. Might not be using res to get coolant in to the system. Cap keeps pressure in system and allows vac created as system cools down to bring coolant in to the system from res. You also state you are running a/c. Does the clutch on rad fan work? As the coolant temp goes up it should be increasing airflow, it sounds like an airplane when it's working. Very noticable from in cab.
 
Is the thermostat from Cummins. A friend of mine had trouble with his gen 1 with a fluctuating temperature until he put a thermostat made for the Cummins in it. The cap is definitely an important but overlooked component.
 
Thanx GW. Ran it all day today. Outside temp around 75. No water loss... . no temps above 200. Looks like you had it nailed.
