Ok so heres the deal. when i bought my truck it has a dana 70 with an open diff. i was not happy with the open part so i put a power trax locker in it. i then started adding HP trans and so on. well richmond gear told me that i could not hurt that locker. I did. I bent the cross shaft. I dont want to put another one back in. i was looking at an ARB air locker. ARB told me that it would be able to handle anything i can throw at it. I questioned this and told the guy i was shooting for like 1200 ft-lbs of torque he said it will break an axle before the locker broke.

My question what are you guys running that have the high HP and torque and is it holding up and do you like it?

O i think i bent the cross shaft pulling my 30 ft goose neck and stomping on it spinning wheels at a stop light. lol so as you can see i might be a little hard on it at times.

if you are in the NC area maybe you might know some that knows how to set the diff up also and can point me to them.

Sounds like you might want to up grade to the Dana 80 and get more beef all around. I would think the cost would be about the same. However, even if it had the limited slip option that may not be locker enough for your plans.

Lockers work but they are expensive and if you break anything in the drivetrain under full power/traction the backlash will break any of them (lockers). The 80 would be a big step in eliminating any breakage in the first place. Course 1200 ft trq and stoplight drag racing with your gooseneck might break the 80 too:)

i thought about that but i didn't want to pull the entire rear out. wouldn't i have to run dual rear wheels then also? I would like to have a selectable locker if at all possible that way my tires might last a little longer.

So far the prices i got for the arb installed and changing the gear to a 3. 73 are $1800 and without the gear and my current 3. 54 its like $1300 neither of witch i think is too bad but i am waiting on a few more guys to call back with their shot at it!

my ideal thoughts are buy the locker and gear and find someone that might want to teach me how to set these things up. its something i have wanted to know how to do for a long time but i dont want to teach my self and keep buying gears till i figure it out... .

All the 2nd. gen. 2500's with a standard transmission used the D80. so no on the duals if that helps.

well i ordered a detroit locker that will be here tomorrow and go in friday. i feel pretty safe that this will hold 500 to 600 hp and 1000ftlbs of torque all day long. they seems to be a pretty solid unit.
