Guys,
I am a newbie here myself and all, but I can tell you that I have a new 6. 7L and with the auto 68RFE transmission and I had the service guys at the dealership turn mine own and we did this in the parking lot and in less than two minutes...
No wires to ground or anything more than the ECM switched on for this option. Works flawlessly also as I use mine every night of the week. I idle mine up to run the lights in my gooseneck trailer while I load up as it may take from 30 minutes to an hour to load up and at a dead slow idle would certainly really be bad on the motor...
I have had the high idle on a six position flip switch on my last diesel, which worked but it was set for only 1100rpm. This one once set will start with the turning the cruise on and push and hold for a second the set button. That will have it at about 1000 R's and then you can use the accelerate button of the cruise to speed that up more from that point. Works really slick guys I promise you...
From what I understand hi-idle is a warm up feature for the engine. My truck came with it. After start while the engine is still below normal, if I let it sit for a little while it idles up to about 1K. As soon as I start to put it in gear it comes down to normal.

Yes, the exhaust braks will stay on unless you bump up the RPM over 1100 (or engine temp get over the setpoint)
PL,
The DPF would be way better off if you idle for longer periods at all at a higher idle speed as this will help keep the heat or at least a higher heat in the exhaust system dude.
That will in turn help keep the solids the DPF traps burned down somewhat, at least more so than a normal idle speed... I don't understand why this doesn't come already on and ready to use on all of these Gotes'.
Pete……. . Just received this special weather warning: SPOKANE, WA, Sever snow and ice storms from the north west. Spokane airport expected to be closed for the next 72 hours.
As Promised!
