Does anybody make some sort of a "high idle" controller for the 3rd gens that don't have the option from the factory? I was in a snowmobile trail groomer with a cummins the other day, and it just had a switch on the dash that would bump the idle up to 1000 RPM's. Thanks

They will "turn on" that feature for free at the dealer if you ask them. After that it's controlled by your cruise control from 1100-1400 I believe. I am not sure what the deal is, but mine will now run up to 1500 if I try. Good luck and welcome.

sorry, for some reason my sig isn't showing up, this is on a 2003, my understanding is that that feature wasn't available until 04 or 04. 5.

Thanks for the reply

I was hoping to get a high idle with the 04 555 engine and the 6-speed. The Bully dog will work but I think it needs to be plugged in. I would a more factory working procedure.

I have a DSG idle controller. Install detail here.

Works great (although it's not load sensitive). But when the weather gets warmer I'm going to do some experimentation with the PTO pin on the ECM (discussion )

Does the Bullydog unit allow you to vary RPM when PTO is engaged? If so, I assume there's a setting available in the DRB-III that dictates PTO idle RPM.

Only for auto's!!!!

The high idle option through the ECM is only available for the trucks with the Automatic Trans :{.

Do a search this has been discussed at length.

Not true. See here:

There is also a dealer option on the 06's that incorporate a micro-switch on the clutch that could probably be retrofitted to the 05's.

As far as the 03-04 models go it will probably take an aftermarket unit unless the PTO option is available.

do a web search for throttlecommander.com up in bc they make an electronic unit. I just ordered one for the local dealer last week.

Man CEB,

Sounds complicated, however I stand corrected. I am a little bit nervous about doing stuff like that while still under warranty.

That being said I think I'll opt for an electronic unit when I decide to install it.

The Ford guys just need to connect a jumper from one of the upfitter switches to, if I remember correctly, the idle control wire for the PTO. It seems like they have another option for the high idle but I don't remember what it is. It would be great if it were that easy for us 03 guys. But then again, they have to deal with the 6. 0L!

I wonder why the kit won't work on 03-04's. The throttle commander looks good but it suffers the same problems as the current factory solution... . Not available for the manual transmission crowd.

I can control the idle with the pto option on my bullydog DL.

How high will the rpms go and can you put it anywhere between idle and max?

How do you like your DL?

Thanks

You wouldnt believe how simple it is to do. I did mine the other night and works like a champ!

i grounded it permantly. Mine must have already had the high idle enabled.

Wow! And just like that the cruise control buttons control the idle RPM? If this works for me I'll be kicking myself for spending all that dough on the DSG idler kit.

The high idle feature must be enabled in the PCM or it won't work. If you ground the pin and it doesn't work the PCM needs to be checked to see if it is enabled.

You guys who have had the ECM connector apart -

Are the pins in the connector itself (the sockets, really) square or round? I'm not talking about the ECM side, I'm talking about the plastic connector side. I don't suppose anyone has a pic? [I'm trying to locate a source for the sockets].
