Can the high Idle be enabled on an 04. 5 w/ 48RE? I've done a search and read threads. I've also looked at TSB 18-004-04 and the way I read the TSB it can only be done on engines made before 12-10-03 but some people with newer trucks say they have had it enabled. Can someone shed light on this subject? Please, don't ask me to do a search because I've already done that and I'm confused.

I have the feature on my truck but because it is a 04 they had to reflash the ECM to get the update that has the high idle in it into the ECM and then they enabled it in a seperate step after the reflash. The 04. 5 were said to come with the code already installed in the ECM and the feature just has to be enabled using the DRBIII scanner.

The dealer had to enable it on my 04. 5. did it at no charge as part of the TSB for white smoke. It's nice to have on those cold mornings.

Keep grinnin,

needs reflash

I had my truck reflashed and it works fine. I think my truck is similar to yours. The reflash also is the white smoke edition and my mileage went up after the reflash. Really an asset in cold weather.

My 04. 5 only required enabling with the DRBIII by the dealer. It was a 5 min job at no cost.

High Idle feature

EMorad the high idle is a worthwhile feature. If the truck has the 48re and its in park or neutral you can press the cruise button on and hit set. This idles the engine up to 1100rpm. Push the accel button and you can get the engine up to 1500 rpm idle. If you move the shifter or hit the brake pedal it goes back to the 750 rpm idle. You can also cancel by turning the cruise off.

6spd-high idle?

I'd love to have this feature, but both dealers in my area say that it is only available to Auto's... is the feature in the ECM, just disabled on the 6spd's as well? I understand the dealers concern about liability, but come on!

Do a search on this site... ... ... what you need has been spelled out,the factory way and the save your money way.

My Dealer enabled it for me on my 04. 5. There should be no issue with it whatsoever.
