I was just wondering if any one has come up with a high idler for us 12V guys that is electrical, call me stupid but if we have cruise control that holds the fuel peddle at a constant RPM why cant we get an idler that does the same, Im sure the cruise is probably also hooked in with the transmission, but surley there is a way to hook into ther RPM gauge. Thanks and please correct me if Im wrong

Do a search. I think the name of the place is H & E Idle Systems or something like that. It's a bracket and solenoid that holds the throttle open a bit for a higher idle speed.

Send an email to Harold Bowers at....

He sells just what you are looking for at a good price.

I have a cable actuated solenoid on my 98 12 valve 3500 that is made by Trombetta Electromagnetics in Milwaukee, WI. I am the second owner, and it was installed when I bought it, so I do not know where it was acquired. I did check their website at Trombetta.com, and they only list the solenoid, not a kit specifically for any one application. The P/N is P613-K1V12. I simply have a dash mounted high idle switch, and the cable is adjusted to increase my idle 200 RPM (infinitely adjustable). It works great. You might try writing the manufacturer at -- email address removed -- for help in who they market that solenoid to for this type application. Good luck.

I made a manuial one out of a throttle cable for tow trucks purchase out of aw direct. I ripped out the cirgarette lighter since I dons't smoke and still have the other port for my cell. Than I hooked it to the throttle bbracket and used the shain supplied in the kit to loop around the pump lever. It is sturdy, and simple so no problems, just turn the knob to up the idle. works great at start up to get even rpm after cold starts.

I have Bowers' high idle system. I had problem with the first solenoid and Harold was kind enough to send me another one free of charge. :) He really is a nice guy and his system works well for the amount of money. However, I am still having problems with mine, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. To be fair, I think the problem lies in my wiring abilities. The wire that he suggests tapping for power is really short, and I have big hands. Not a good wiring combination. I am looking into getting a painless wiring box from Geno's, and then either going to a different solenoid, or a mechanical system like wrichards.

If you go with Bowers' system, be careful when you pick out the spot for you switch. I pot mine in the knee bolster on the right side of the steering wheel and didn't pay attention to the mounting brackets of the knee bolster. I ended up doing some 'trimming' to the plastic bracket that the knee bolster screws into, and now I have a nice squeek to remind me of my stupidity. Live and learn.

At the moment I don't recall where I saw this( think it was a link on the dodgeram.org site), but they had a electronic box that tied into the cruise control to bump up the idle. I used a hand throttle cable myself. $10, can't beat that. :)

Pleeeeeeeeeease remember where you found that.

My peterbilt does that with the cruise. Infinite adjustment it works so sweet.

I e-mailed Harold for his setup and haven't heard anything yet.

I am familiar with the unit bmoeller is referring to.

I looked at these for quite some time after I first bought my truck, but IMO a high idle device is not worth the money they demand for these units (over $200 US) No doubt the idea is great and very convienient, but cost prohibitive.

high idle

hello guys, I just sold my 90' but that a great set-up like the one

bmoeller has. It was stock because I had to replace the cable once about 5 years ago. check with local Dodge dealer, maybe

they can help you out.

I thoght about going that route too, but I didn't want to spend that much for it when I knew I could do it cheaper myself. Plus I would've had to replace my servo(hole in it big enough to stick my thumb in the top of it  )and the vacuum hose(capped off)to get the cruise working first.
