Hey Guys

Well the damn truck arrived finally on Monday 4/12 after sitting for 3 weeks in the Port of Newark. When I got it I tried the high Idle like the 03 guys can do with the cruise switch. It does not work! Is this not a feature for the 04. 5? I like being able to use a high Idle during stops rather than having to use some thing jammed under the seat to hold the fuel pedal down. Anybody know if the feature is supposed to work on the 04. 5. Seems like between fuel mileage and some of the things like this that we may have downgraded ourselves by moving to a new truck. Oo.

THE 03 CANNOT DO THAT JUST THE 04 AND 04. 5 YOU NEED TO GO TO THE DEALER AND LET THEM DOWN LOAD THE TSB FOR IT I DID AND IT WORKS FINE.

I stand corrected. I thought it first came out for the 03 but re-read the post and see I was wrong. I can not believe that a truck that was just built needs that but what the hell! Do you have the TSB number?

Any other TSB's i should get done while its in? I am avoiding the re-flash for now because the truck only has 150 miles on it and I realize that the mileage is gonna suck for a bit. :D

THE TSB# TSB18-004-04 FOR THE HIGH IDLE. IF YOU TELL THE DEALER THAT YOU HAVE POOR CAB HEAT IT WILL NOT COST A THING. MY TRUCK WAS THE FIRST ONE THAT THEY DID AND IT TOOK THEM ABOUT 2HRS. BUT IF THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO IT WILL TAKE 10MIN.

MPassaro,

I took my truck in for "long warmup period" and referenced the TSB 18-004-04, but they said that it did not apply to my truck and that the long warmup period was a "normal condition". I have a manual transmission-is yours the auto?

I HAVE A AUTO BUT IT WILL WORK ON YOURS TO. I USE IT WHEN I WILL HAVE MY TRUCK IDLING FOR ALONG TIME SO I CAN BRING UP THE IDLE TO 1200RPM IT IS BAD TO LET A TRUCK IDLE FOR ANY TIME BUT IF YOU RAZE THE IDLE TO 1200RPM THIS IS THE NORMAL OPERATING SPEED SO IDLING FOR A LONG TIME WILL NOT HURT THE TRUCK

IAM ON THE FIRE DEPT SO WHEN I GET A CALL MY TRUCK SOME TIMES WILL SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD RUNING WITH THE LIGHTS ON FOR SOME TIME.

So for those of you that have this mod, i'm wondering about the functionality. Does it go up/down 100RPM with each click of the cruise control button? Can you change that and make it 50rpm increments?

Went to the dealer today to get the high idle feature enabled and the dealer wouldn't do it. He said that the engine had to have been made on or prior to 12/10/03, mine was built on 1/29/04. Does anyone know if this feature will work on this engine if I can find a dealer willing to turn it on?

What klenger said... I know there's people with 600's that have the high idle control... find another dealer or make him do some research.

The TSB came out in February, so I would guess that any 04. 5's that have software newer than Feb should have the feature. According to the TSB, this is for trucks with automatics only.

Keep in mind that on my '04, the TSB was a two-step procedure. Step one was to download new software into the ECM. Step two was to go in and enable the feature. The tech that did mine forgot step two, so I had to go back. Works great now.

My guess is that if your software is new enough, the feature is probably there, it just needs to be enabled.

thejeepdude,

I just went outside and checked mine... it does not increment at all, but seems to be infinitely adjustable to any RPM between 1100 and 1500.

The feature on the 04. 5's is disabled from the factory it is enabled under the engine-misc tab on the drbII... Only thing I am wondering though is that it does not seem to work on a hot truck only the cold ones, anyones work with the warm engine?

Ok... I have an o4 6spd, 305/555 What is the procedure to see if mine has this feature, or tell me where in the owners manual it might be listed?

The TSB states that is for AUTO transmission only. I cannot prove it yet but I am thinking that this works on the auto only because there is a real servo that pulls the throttle linkage to do the normal cruise controll opeeration and they added the code to use this servo to temporarily up the idle!

My engine build date is 12-19-03 and the feature, if there, is not enabled. I have not ask my dealer about it but it sure would be nice to have.

Here is the TSB: http://www.portjeff.net/df5152/tsb_1800404.htm

When I asked my dealer's service writer about it, he said it doesn't get cold enough here to need it. I told him I'll sometimes drive up north in the winter time, so I will need it.

Works fine now.

Based on the specifics in the TSB, I am out of luck; built just a few day too late. Oh well, I still think I will keep it!
