Maintaining my truck myself and keeping the warranty

Manual (Diesel Supplement). Was I a fool to think it would be installed on a G56? Still wouldn't trade my G56 for anything.Oo.

If the truck is in "High Idle", does that not count as idle time in the computer?

High idle does not count as idle time. On my 2011, I had a surge/miss issue and the first thing the dealer looked at was idle time. At 88,000 miles, they were surprised how low the idle time was. That's because I don't let my truck idle. I do do let ot high idle on occasion.

My exhaust brake appears to come on automatically on my 2015 on really cold mornings when I use high idle. I can hear the engine come under load and it warms up fast.

I just looked up the high idle feature in my 2006 brochure for the 2007 C&C, and it was only included with the PTO option. It is worded as "DRIVER ADJUSTABLE IDLE CONTROL (Must have Power Take-off Prep)" and was optional.

The ECM knows all like the mighty Oz....

This is the very first thing done now when a truck comes in here with an engine issue from any engine manufacturer. We look for logged events such as overheating, low oil pressure, excessive idling, engine overspeed, etc. depending on the complaint.
Cat requires an ECM download on any warranty repairs before we proceed. If we do not submit that download we do not get paid for the repair.

I learned that the DD13 Detroit Diesel engines have pressed on cam lobes and if they get oversped the lobes will shift on the cam. A download is very important in that event...:--)

Actually its broke down in 10 10% levels depending on engine load. 0-10% is idle/no load. 11-20% is high idle. It can be read with the scan tool and chryslee will ask for it. It was one of the first things star center asked whenever we had engine, fuel, turbo problems

Same info, just in a Chrysler format then.

When they put these Cummins engines into a RAM it's like working on the "Dark Web" as far as the electronics go......:D

I played with mine today. The parking brake does not need to be set. Park, foot off brake pedal, turn on cruise and up it goes to 1100 RPMs. Touch the brake pedal and off it goes. Up down works as noted. SNOKING

My high idle works with my G56 ordered with the PTO option, but it's a C&C. Maybe you can buy a Dealer PTO option, and it might allow high idle.

I don't think PTO is a Ram 2500 option. But I will check next time at the dealer.

Thx RVTrkn!

My 2005 AT did not have the fast idle feature enabled. Smarty Jr enabled it. The 2013 does out of the box from factory with AT.

Wile hooking up a trailer a few days ago my high idle came on for the first time and the exhaust brake came on also.

mwllson Pressed on cam lobes? wow sounds like a bad idea.

It doesn't have anything to do with actual PTO funcitonality, the idle up feature uses the PTO sense circuit in the ECU to activate and control idle up. It is and has been available in all Cummins ECU's since 98.5 in varying forms. Since Dec of 2003 every truck, manual or auto, with the Dodge flash in it has the ability to do idle up. The ECU has to have the PTO sense circuit activated and the Dodge software portion has to have the idle up feature enabled for it to work. By default manual trucks do NOT have the feature enabled due to needing to add a switch to the clutch to kill it the same as the brake. That was not a factory option, dealer install only. All trucks as a rule are delivered to the dealer with a lot of options disabled. Dealer prep is what enables idle up and other features based on the platform.

Ground the PTO sense circuit on the ECU and enable the idle up feature and it available on G56 trucks. I does take StarScan or WiTech to enable and if the dealer will not do it without installing the clutch switch per STAR's orders then it usually does not get done.

So the factory installed the clutch switch on my C&C ordered with the PTO option? I don't think the dealer installed the switch, but I remember they activated it on the computer.

Good post, makes much sense, like many new vehicles, particularly lower trim levels, there are 'optional' features just below the surface.

Maybe the older trucks needed a clutch pedal switch installed and the newer ones do not? My '14 G56 certainly has a switch or sensor of some type that kills the cruise control if in use, and of course the clutch pedal must be pressed to allow starting.

Do dealers really add a second, redundant switch?

I've been considering adding the BD idle-up device, I like the idea of a simple inline rheostat.

My truck has not had to return to the dealer yet, and I'd prefer to keep it that way, but. I 'may' want/need to take it in for some of the recent recalls eventually.

Possibly, if actually ordered with the PTO option. CC is a bit different than the normal LD truck build so it could be there from the factory, the earlier ones did not have that switch installed and was an add on. Dodge even had\has a PN for it.

It is nothing but a simple switch to break the sense circuit. One would think it could contained in the existing neutral safety switch but who knows the impact on existing functionality. Does your truck have the idle up working? Is there only one switch on the clutch pedal or more?
