i'm familiar with the high idle with my 01, but the 03 idled up this morning for no apparent reason, plugged in and idled for 5 min and then jumped up to 1000rpm's? my electrician says his 03 auto has done it twice in the middle of the day while idleing in a parking lot all up to temp? its not cold out 30's night 40's day?

anyone else? thought i read about a reflash for ecm for a tps malfunction?

Acting normal. 35 degrees (F) outside seems to be the magic temp for my truck. It's seems to work with a combination of outside temp and engine temp. With the engine cold, plugged in or not, the idle runs up after two minutes. If the engine is warm and I let it idle, the engine temp drops enough to kick the high idle in - as long as the outside temp is below 35. Can scare the devil out of ya if you're not expecting it.

I do hate it when it goes to high idle at startup - I kick it down and let it come back up after two minutes.

yes, the way i understand it ... . it could be 100 degrees outside and if it idles long enought *some* measured temp (coolant, intake temp, who knows) can set off the high idle.

I have stopped in rest area, outside temp. 27*, was idling 750rpm, went in did my bussiness, came out it was idling 1000. It will do this till it warms up, then slow down, and when it cools, will go back to 1000. I have also started it in 20*, and it has immeadiatly went to 1000rpm. This bothered me at first, but if you read the cold weather starting instructions on your sun visor, it says upon starting, to rev it to 1000rpm as soon as it starts. I don't understand why, but thats what it says. The same instructions were on my 00.

extended idle- idle will increase to 1000 rpm after a 2 minute delay if intake manifold temp, battery temp, and coolant temp are below calibrated levels. this feature will be disabled with inputs from the brake or throttle. auto trani's must be in park and vehicle

speed must be 0 mph.

coolant based elevated idle- idle will increase to 1000 rpm if coolant temps are very low or very high. this results in improved

engine warm up times and aids in engine cooling when coolant

temps are high. this feature is not cancelled by brake, and throttle

inputs, or vehicle speed. the normal idle speed of 750 rpm is

maintained between 30 and 225 degf coolant temp. idle spped is raised to 1000 rpm when colant temp is less than 30 deg f, or

greater than or equal to 225 f.

Battery temp? How does it extricate that? Or is it just looking at the charge rate to the batts and calculating temp based on internal resistance and planet alignment?

There is a sensor in the driver side battery tray. :--)
