That one is also 2wd wich always lowers the retail quite a bit compared to 4x4's

i am finding out that these trucks don't hold their value at all. If you take the average of the price of the new truck I am looking at and the average of the trade they are offering it comes out like this:

AVG trade in price $14200

AVG new vehicle price $31800

New truck is probably going to be 06 2500 QC 6sp 2 wheel drive.

But I have been looking at Ford and chevy gassers

either an F-150 with the 5. 4 or the Chevy 1500HD.

I will only keep either one of those for 2 years

That's alot of miles on an 03! I wouldn't be very worried about it though, the body looks in pristine shape, I'd bet it was taken care of and 99% of that is highway mileage.

Shoot my Dad bought a new Ford Ranger in 1996, it's got about 230,000 on it now, almost all highway miles. He changed the plugs, oil and tires when needed. Did the timing belt around 100k for preventative maintence, brakes changed once and well as the u joints. Still on the stock clutch, ball joints, steering, etc. Not bad for a $10k truck.

It got me thinking....

Ok, just for grins... .

490,000 miles. Lets say avg MPG is 15 and avg price of fuel is $2. 50 per gallon.

Works out to $81,665 for fuel

Oil changes??

Lets say every 10k miles. 49 oil changes for 147 gallons of 15w40.

Oil filter at $8, A gallon of oil at $7

$1405 for oil changes.

Tires? Lets say he bought commercial and got 80k out of a set. $150 per tire.

6 changes for a cost of $5400

We won't even get into how much he must have spent on coffee..... :D

The price of success ain't cheap!

or how about...

Seat time?

Lets say the truck was in service from June 03 to June 06. 36 months.

Assuming single driver, working 5 days a week with 2 weeks off for vacation per year. No holidays or other time off.

Thats a total of 30 months. Average of 20 work days per month or 600 days over the life of the truck.

That is 816 miles per day. Every work day.

Assume an average speed of 50 MPH? Thats 16. 3 hrs in the seat each day. Whats the federal commercial maximum? 10 hrs a day? That would be an average speed of almost 82 MPH.

How about if the guy worked 7 days a week? Thats 575 miles per day or 11. 5 hrs a day behind the wheel EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Assume 2 cups of coffee at $2 per cup each day. Thats $1200 for coffee! :-laf And the donuts... ...

Most likely, this vehicle was not driven by one person alone. But once I got thinking about it, the numbers are really staggering.

Yes, it was a slow nite at work. :D
