If it is fuel in the oil, how do you determine which injector is leaking or if it is the CP3 leaking?

The CP3 has a weep hole to vent the shaft area so it doesn't leak into the engine. If there is a leak it is almost certain it is an injector.

If the shaft seal goes bad it can leak inside the motor. I had a friends do this on a stock truck at 30,000 miles.

After reading all the particulars of your post, I'll make this comment.

From personel experience's on my truck the oil level always runs a bit high above the cross hatch area. My oil has been changed numerous times over the 72000 the truck has on it with no problems. With long trips to Alaska with the camper etc. etc. My mechanic always uses 12 litre's (3. 1 US gal) Amsoil 15W-40.

I say this in a nice joking way, but I think you don't have enough to worry about in your life. Enjoy your truck and quit being so paranoid. Have great worry free weekend. Pete

I have found that the only reliable way to check the oil is when the engine is cold after sitting all night. It is very hard to determine the level shortly after parking a hot engine, even after a half hour. Three gallons makes it register almost exactly at the top of the range on the dipstick. It's almost impossable to check the oil right after filling. Adding an extra quart is probably not the way to go.

High oil level

Watch your oil pressure, it takes very little fuel to cause it to drop a noticeable amount. On the bigger engines you can smell the fuel on the oil stick, I'm told, but my smeller has been ruint by exhaust and fuel, I believe. It will be interesting to see what the oil test says.

very good idea, but remember the factory "gauge" on the cluster is a glorified idoit light. it doesn't read pressure. it is a 6psi pressure switch [on/off]

Update:

I still will not got the analysis back for about a week. I drove it a little over the weekend, but didn't pull the trailer camping. After reading everybodys comments I am leaning toward believing there is nothing wrong.

When pulling the dipstick in the past I would just yank it out in one quick smoth motion which was pulling a lot of the oil up into the dipstick tube and giving a false reading.

The last few times I checked it over the weekend I would pull the dipstick out really slow for the first 6-8 inches to let the oil drip off, then wipe the dipstick and reinsert it for the actual check. After checking it this way I have been getting more accurate readings and the level has stayed pretty consistant (although I didn't put many miles on this weekend). The oil analysis will tell the real story... I'll post the results when I get them. Thanks for all the help.

Good news.

Oil analysis came back with all good marks! I haven't seen any change in level for the last week either now that I've been a little more consistant in how I check it.

I'm going to keep up with the oil analysis program since it is very interesting and also cheap insurance.

Thanks for all the info and help.
