Can hear a high pitched metallic squealing noise when idling, seems to be coming from either the alternator or the spring mounted tensioner. With my hearing I can't really tell. This is a 99 3500 with 70,898 miles. Any experience along this line and is it a dealer item? Thanks bg

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND EVERYBODY WAS POSTING ABOUT THE COST OF IDLER PULLEYS. I TOOK MINE OFF AND SOAKED IT IN OIL, THE NOISE WENT AWAY.

Use a long screw driver (3') with the handle held up to your ear. Put the tip on each idler or accessory until you find the problem.

Priced the idler at Rruck parts today, cant buy it without the spring mechanism, $101. xx plus tax. How do I contact Practical

Solutions? This idler is exactly the same diameter as one for 4. 3 GM but is wider, has two 203 bearings. bg

Can't you just replace the bearings?

When my idler wore out, the bearings were fine, the bushing in the tensioner is what wore out. It allowed the pully to be pulled out of alignment and the belt gets really close to another pully or bracket.
