Just took my new CTD in for reflash TSB last Friday. Haven't had time to check milage, but will on Monday. Since this is my first diesel, I have a question. I hear a very high pitched "whine" when I accelerate. I don't think it is diesel chatter, as the service tech said. Traveling at 55 with radio off, I accelerate and hear this very faint (but annoying) whine at 1600 or so rpm's. It doesn't get louder, but come and goes whenever the accelerator is pushed. I can also hear it at lower speeds. Is this "normal" Dodge Ram diesel sounds? Otherwise, I am so glad I chose to go with this awesome truck.

That whine you are probably hearing is the business end of your engine, the turbo, and most people, like myself enjoy the noise. The noise suggests that you are making boost and horsepower, have some fun with your truck and put a boost and pyro guage on it, IMO they are a necessity, stock or not.

Sit back and enjoy the sounds of one of the best diesel motors around.

I would check your rear differential oil level... . unfortunately many of the newer trucks aren't filled enough from the factory.

My buddys fathers truck 03 4x4 CTD ext long bed has a high pitch transmission whine in first gear, both accelerating and decellerating..... this woulndt be around the same problem would it?

thanks guys

Ian
