My understanding, with minimal evidence to back it, is that the CP3 (2018 version) was not capable of the higher pressures needed for the 19+ motor and the revised version of the CP3 (CP-ISB) was not ready yet so the CP4 was used a a cheaper stopgap until a better pump was available.

There are always other options. Some even better options. Just think if RAM installed CARLI ball joints instead of the junk our trucks came with. It all comes down to cost. Save $1 on each truck, build a million trucks you save a million dollars. The customer always pays in the end.

Manufacturers don't eat higher productions costs.....they pass them on.....so be careful what you wish for. Some people will complain about these things (saving money in production), while in the same breath complain about the cost of these trucks.....
My balljoints have 130k miles on them...they are still fine, I don't see a problem with them.

You are one of the lucky few that have gotten good life lout of their ball joints. Like I said the customer always pays in the end. Doesn’t matter if they put a better quality part in when they build the truck or you replace the junk down the road.

I sent Cummins a email early on about the CP4 and they replied they are not responsible for what Chrysler uses on the engine. That made me think it was a Chrysler added fuel pump component for emissions reasons.

Sounds a bit odd to me, the last I heard FCA buys a fully assembled Cummins engine that is 100% ready to be mated to the trans then installed into the truck...

Nice they had the parts in stock. Somebody probably booked the recall then cancelled. Their loss, your gain. Let us know how she runs post recall.
Truck runs fine, everything is the same power wise. The part installed is csrly781-aa Modulekit 14073001
Labor description noted is: Safety recall Y78-High Pressure Fuel Pump (recalli) Replace HPFP and Reprogram PCM14-y7-81-82 3.5
I went over the job after i got it home after 40 miles, they did a real nice job, very clean no leaks of any kind.

It’s nice to hear that there are some good service Tec’s out there. Far too often you hear about the hacks. I was using the ball joints as just an example. The 3rd gen trucks and the early 4th gen trucks with the 5 link front end seemed to chew them up. Both my 05 and my 13 had wore through the factory ball joints by 70,000 miles. The 13 developed the death wobble bad . Crazy thing with that truck the ball joints measured within factory specifications for movement when the Death wobble reared its ugly head. Ny roads can kill just about anything.

I received the new recall letter advising the solution is available for my 2019.
I immediately called and made an appointment for this past Monday.
Dropped it off with the word that it will be a few days.
Wednesday (yesterday afternoon) I received a call that they just realized my truck is a 2019 and there is no remedy yet. I told them about the letter and to go look in my console it is in there.
They called me this morning and said it is ready to go.
It seems to run a little quieter and the off idle rattle it always had is gone.

I am happy to have it completed at 105K miles
