Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) High rpm miss

When I stomp on the go peddle the engine starts to miss and sputter out ? to day I was chalenged by a ford taures from a stop till the road changed into a single lane only about 500 feet . The taures ran passed me as my engine was crapping out . also the check engine light came on to day aswell , any sugestions . I hate to take it to the local dealer because this means it will take four or five trips to fix and several hundred dollers untill they get it figured out .

I dont really know the answer to your problem, but it looks like you have a 24 V. You may get a better response from the 24 V forum. Sorry

How many miles are on the truck?



Have you had the transfer pump (lift) replaced?



Does it get worse when you put the truck in neutral and rev it up?



I think you should also check the fuel filter, and if possible get a fp guage.

I agree, sounds like your running out of fuel. Lift pump, fuel filter, etc...

Thanks for the replys and sorry for the post in the wrong section (12 valve) . I was wondering if the problem was related to the fhul system and I hope that DC will replace the lift pump if needed . The truck has 52k on it and as far as the fhul filter I don't know if the dealer changed it when seviced was done ?. I hope this helps !!! Ken

Change your fuel filter, and have your fuel pressure checked.

Sounds like your lift pump is dead though, typically with a clogged fuel filter your lift pump is toasted and overworked anyways.

Just food for thought... . I have never experienced a clogged fuel filter, but when my lift pump died, I could not tell by the way it ran. My truck did develop a miss after about 10,000 with the new pump, and that was caused by the vp44. I now have a new one at 60,000, and DC paid for it all.
