High speed Idle, Reflash ECM. Reimbursement?

I just battled with the "Service Advisor" at Moss Bros. Dodge in San Bernadino and after some arm twisting, had my ECM reflashed for high speed Idle and the three cylinder drop modification. I got the song and dance of "we can't duplicate the complaint" speech, and though I live in the mountains and can see the dealership 5500 feet below and we have totally different weather etc. etc.

Long story short, he charged me 70 bucks and their computer didn't automatically warranty the procedure. Can someone tell me what the address is and procedures to apply for a reimbursement from D. C. ? It is 32 degrees out so I will hopefully be able to test it once the truck cools down from it's trip to get reflashed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for any help guys. Dennis

Re: High speed Idle, Reflash ECM. Reimbursement?

I saw the TSB in the last issue of TDR. I copied it and took it to Dodge (in San Diego). The Service Rep told me he could not do the TSB unless I had a problem. I told him that the TSB was to prevent damage to the engine and made him read the TSB. He asked to copy it and then told me they would install it at no cost. I have yet to get it done as the machine that does the reflash is broken. Should be online this Monday (Jan 21, 2002). There was never any discussion about paying anything for it. It is a TSB and therefore Dodge had the right to eat the cost. Let me know of you solutions as I may have to follow closely behind.

A TSB is not neccessarily a no cost deal. They can for various things. Some will be issued for Diagnostic aids. The TSB will state if a procedure is "reimbursible within the provisions of the warranty" or for "information only".

The reimbursible part means the dealer can bill DC using the proper Labor Operation Number and get paid for doing it to your truck.

Search the other threads dealing with the high idle and 3 cyl idle software, there is a lot of info in them. There is much discussion of DRB III software updates, the dealer needs to have the proper version in the scantool.

Don't rile them up Newf!

Newf, I bought my truck there. While I have never been back for anything serious, they have been great for me. I have to live with them after you leave town, so go easy on them!!

Sam:D ;)

So you have a manual transmission. Interesting!! The dealers here in Arkansas and DC say the SB is only for automatic transmission vehicles. If you have something or the dealer where you are have something stating it is for manual transmission vehicles also, please post or send me by email.

Thanks.

jdross440, That is why the TSB says vehicles must be in Park or NEUTRAL. It also says for all CTD's 98. 5 and up. Tell your dealer to read. They can be such idiots sometimes. If they aren't sure about something, why don't they get off their lazy butts and FIND OUT!!!   God I hate stupid people! If it makes you feel any better, they didn't put the right software in mine so now I have to go back AGAIN! Give me strength. . .
