well i do alot of short trips 8 miles and less... My buddies dad who has had many cummins trucks (at least 8 including semis) told me to do that every once and a while... If the new truck are cleaner though i wont do it ever again... At least untill i get a different turbo... I hate this turbo

The High EGT's come with full throttle, if you are just crusin empty in 5th gear you aren't going to hurt anything and don't need to worry about the EGT's

Again, stock temps pulling heavy loads are at 1300 - 1310. That is my safe zone. If it will do it stock, then it's ok to go there with mods. Cummins gives technical advise to certified mechanics as 1350.

As far as pinching the hose shut that goes to the wastegate, be careful..... doing it that could set overboost codes.

Also to note that the stock turbo is only efficient to about 36psi. This means that once you start to go past, you are actually creating additional heat which compounds the problem. This 36psi number is the limiting factor. YES!!!! a bigger turbo would be great! Kind of pricey still but definitely in the future and after the warranty is up! Bottom line... the more air that a guy can push in, the better/cooler the truck will operate with mods.

Cheers! :D

Stock filter and exhaust. EZ on level 6 when not towing; on level 4 when towing ~12,000# 5er.

I initially started out without the elbow (didn't want any 'lasting' mods). Temps got into the 1200-1300 range real fast, both with the EZ on 4 and 6.

Installed the elbow after talking to Edge about the high EGTs. I seem to run 100-150*F lower with it.

Anybody tried pulling with EZ on 6? I'm thinking about trying it in the spring, instead of switching between 4 and 6...

I'm a little confused about "4" and "6". I thought the Edge EZ only had 4 power levels... . 1,2, 3 and 4???

BigdaddyMC,

When you say "Top speed 63 MPH up the hill", do you mean you had your foot to the floor for the entire hill (or most of it), and that's as fast as you could go towing that load?

Help me out here please. Are we not talking about 2003's maybe? This is from my 2003 Edge EZ manual:

Power Gains

The following power gains are representative of an actual test vehicle.

Power gains may vary somewhat on a different vehicle or in different

geographic settings.

Horsepower Torque

Level 1: 40 150

Level 2: 50 180

Level 3: 60 200

Level 4: 70 220

I'm running Level 3 FWIW but I will run Level 4 eventually.

On the first Edge EZ's their were actually 6 levels. Levels 5&6 were kind of hidden and never really intended for public use, they were their for the original testing but Edge must have decided they were not total safe to use. The jumper setting are floating around in the message boards some where. On the newer EZ's the pins are cut off so you can't get into the level 5&6 at all.

I believe that level 6 is suppose to be around 80-90 hp.

Level 6 is a secret:eek: :D Move both pins on the right side just the opposite of level 4.

Level 4 :II

Level 6 II:

Level 5 I:I

I gave my EZ to Fred Swanson to try on his truck. He noticed a considerable difference from level 4 on his box to level 6 on mine. I think it will be a difficult time getting it back. Oh Well he owes me now..... Greg

Just so all you guys know... when you blow the return spring out of the truck, it's a spendy piece to replace. And, our version of the box is power level "0" where the Edge WAS power level 6.

Yes, those speeds are max speeds. Didn't matter where the foot was after a certain point. Now it seems that the only thing that limits speed on moderate hills is the amount of curves that I encounter.

Yes I know that the EZ blocks boost codes but codes can be produced... - never say that something is full proof! :(

As for the Edge EZ level 6, the boxes were manufactured with out the level 5 and 6 since about Aug. of 03 (I believe that is date). Some may have gotten older boxes that were sold after that date and still had the benifits of those levels. I would certainly be careful towing a load with those levels..... 28,000psi sustained can do wonders on a fuel rail. :--)

I've had mine since they first came out and the dealer had had it twice since then. They also noticed the velcro and hinted about "boxes", lol.

But they seem like a cool bunch and do off roading (they are Jeepers), they even shared pics and stories.

We'll see how that all pans out!

Please explain this to me? Am I missing something?

Heh, not really Forrest. We did some early testing with the EZ box and determined that pushing the rail pressure for more than about 65-70hp is too much.

When running with big injectors (remember our 563hp run? ) when you back off with the pressure up that high, the pressure would actually overpower the gaskets on the relief valve and spray diesel all over the engine compartment.

We also found out that the big pressure would sack out the spring in the relief over time too. That's why we limited the power in our version of the box to 65-70, and why Edge eventually removed those power levels.

Our box now has a "0" power level where their #6 was, so we can turn the box off for towing with a high HP setup to keep EGT's more manageable. Because the EZ gets it's power from the rail pressure plug, you can't just unplug that part and still have the boost module feature work. Level "0" was our work-around solution.
