High test tailgate cables

Took my 3500 with 26 foot gooseneck flatbed to a well known tire dealer for eight new trailer tires today. Tires look great,but unbeknownst to me they took the trailer off to do the work and some yo-yo didn't put the latch pin back in(Found it later laying in the bed with it's keeper pin inserted)nor attach the safety chain. I drove about 7 miles before WHAM,the trailer came off!The goose neck caught the tailgate bent it in half and ripped the hinge pins right off. The tailgate check cables held though and I was able to pull that 3000 lb trailer 200 feet,to get off the highway, with those two 1/8 inch cables. So even if Dodge can't make good brakes or fuel tank senders they at least make good tailgate cables. Tire dealer says he'll pay,lucky it wasn't much,much worse.

Nice to know that DC added an option that we did not have to pay for (SHHHHSSSSSS - dont ask dont tell #ad
). DC should be proud to advertise their "safety chains" for 5th's (& goosenecks) as a "no cost" option #ad
wether you own a 5th (gooseneck) or not you get this much needed option!!!!!!!!!!

illflem, glad to hear you weren't hurt... although, I'm wondering about the "WHAM" part. Was that by chance while you were driving (braking) by Lake Chelan scannin' the babes in bikinis? #ad

Sad thing is that DC doesn't make the cables. They buy them form an outside supplier. At least they have the sense to buy some good ones.

I have heard comments from some folks that they use a checklist prior to towing. When I hear of something like this Bill, I wonder to myself if that might not be a good idea. But in this case it looks like they laid a "trap" for you. Hate to hear about a business making that kind of mistake. I compliment you on not Naming names at this point.

Well, my 36' gooseneck caught my tailgate one time. My dad unhooked it and left it sit parked under the trailer, but put the tailgate up. The next mourning, when he went to frive away WAMM. Bent the tailgate back a half inch and left a dent in it. Only one side latches now, but it holds.
