2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Head light brightness

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission AC fitting on 2001 3500

2002 2500HO NV5600. Was driving on the highway, 500 mile trip, not towing at about 80mph. Transfer case temp was around 210 degrees. Slowed down to 70mph and it hovered around 190 degrees. Fluid level is good. It’s the original transfer case with 237k on it. Any ideas? Outside temp was in the 70s and 80s.

Any possibility the transfer case was in 4wd? How was the temperature measured? with a heat gun? a temperature gauge?

I have never checked transfer case temperature on my truck. I would think that the temperature would stay fairly low since the transfer case doesn't do any real work when it is in 2wd.

Temp gauge coming off the case. I was in 2wd. Thats where the concern came from, couldn’t figure a reason why it’d be so high given the contitions.

What does it normally run at? On my 98 with the hd transfer case was 120 the other day at 15 degrees outside air temp running empty

These are my temperatures 50 degrees today 12360 pounds light weight empty truck and trailer 70 mph

Do you have the CAD type Dana front axle? If not your still turning the front axle and transfer case in two wheel drive with a 2002. That might be how it's getting hot.
