Has anybody had a VP die just after putting on a strong lift/pusher pump on? I have 118k on and am adding a strong pusher pump 19-20 psi and am wondering if anybody has had the vp die as a result of the higher pressure to late in(the vp's) life to help. I am running a Oem pump with bigger lines so I see about 14 psi tops now.

High Psi will not hurt the VP44. I got this info from Bosch in Germany spoke to an engineer who helped engineered the making of the VP44 pump. He did say what kills the VP44 pump is low to no PSI. PSI to high will make for hard starting but will not hurt the VP44 pump:D :D

Are you going to use that in addition to your factory pump? Or, are you going to instal like we did mine? I'll call you Friday to let you know if I'll be around this weekend.
 
dsherman, So if a guy was to install an electric pump in the system that operates from 10 to 15 psi continually and has the capability to move 35 gallons per minute I won't have to concern myself with a bypass such as the current Cummins/Carter pump? I want to intall this pump back near the tank and leave the factory lp alone, just use the factory fuel filter in the sys. I am thinking that the VP44 will return any excess fuel and should not need a lp that has this capability or what the current lp uses to bypass fuel, which I don't see and I've taken one apart. There's in and out, no 3rd circut for return, or does it just stop pumping. That could be the death of the thing, to much on/off action. Whats your or anyones thinking/experience on the matter. Tom

I can't believe it!



Even the damned Bosch "experts" aren't all on the same page as far as what's good or bad for the VP-44! 3 different Bosch "experts", 3 different stories - the last "expert" warned AGAINST higher pressures - those above 15 PSI or so, and claimed the VP-44 was just dandy as long as ANY positive pressure was available at the VP-44 - and if need be, the internal mechanical LP inside the VP-44 COULD do the job on it's own (he just didn't say for how LONG... ) :rolleyes:



How can we, or DC know what's best for these pumps, when Bosch themselves don't seem to know or agree?



Me, *I'll* stick with a dead reliable 15-22 PSI right at the inlet to the VP-44, and take my chances! ;)
 
I agree with you Gary. I've been running a Carter pusher with AN-6 lines all the way to the VP44 for 40000 miles now. I get 20-22 psi at idle and never ever below 12-14 psi, BTW I'm still on my original lift pump. :cool: I am convinced that pulling the fuel so far is what is killing the lift pumps.

I just try to pass on the information and you can decide for your self what you wont to do with it:D :D
