Ok gauge freaks, whats your highest temp recorded on the following:

EGT

Engine water

Engine oil

5speed lube

6 speed lube

Automatic

Rear Differential

Anyone have a gauge in the transfer case or front differential?

Any pyrometers before and after the intercooler?

What were you doing at the time, overloaded up Donner Pass, perhaps?

EGT -- Post Turbo, towing uphill :900 degrees Westach EGT gauge

Engine water-- Towing uphill :210 (On a live feed OBD2 Scanner)

Engine oil -don't have

5speed lube --don't have

6 speed lube --don't have

Automatic-- In bumper to bumper traffic, towing: 220, hot line, a little concerned, Westach temp gauge.

Rear Differential--don't have

Highest EGT was east bound on Donner Pass last Oct. I was running empty in 6th and I hit 850 post turbo. This was stock. Makes me wonder what the ungauged fifth wheel haulers are doing to their engines.

Just watching EGT's right now but I have had it spike to 1700 degrees prior to losing the HY and going to the HX35. On the dyno yesterday I topped off @ 1509 degrees. Certainly not temps I every want to sustain!!

So what kind of EGTs will cause damage? I have always heard to limit EGTs to 1200, what's the story on this? Can I push more thatn 1200 with a stock HO with no mods besides a tuning box and drilled air box?

You can run 1200 degrees all day long. Short spikes, like when on a dyno or drag strip probably wont do much damage because the duration at high temps is pretty short.

Anybody know how hot a flame from a lighter is??

Ever put your finger through the flame? Short durations of heat isn't going to hurt much, but heat soaking the head to 1400* will probly melt something.

I did however find out that the max. recorded value on my SPA EGT tattletale feature was limited to 1740 deg. F. :D

And yes, I know what aluminum melts at (I'm a machinist that works with aluminum every work day of the year!)

these are temps back when I had the 6 speed and single HX35 turbo:

EGT: 1320 POST TURBO @ 48psi boost

Coolant: about 230*

Engine oil: ??? no guage

6-speed: around 255* (with fastcoolers)

Rear diff: 280*

This was during a flat out run in west Texas (104* ambient temp). Running unloaded with my foot through the floorboard.

EGT north of 1600-numbers stop there. Drag Racing.

AT saw 238 last week for short time-thankyou amsoil.

Diff saw 210 pulling 14,000 5'ver on Fla turnpike last week also.

:D
