Figured I'd share this with you guys.

Over the past month and a half I have been trying to find a good quality "Chest style" box for my short bed 2500. Also, since I have a tonneau cover a regular over the rail box would not work for me. The problem I was having had to do with the shorter distance from the wheel well hump to front wall of the bed. It seems that when Dodge reduced the bed by three inches for the 3rd gen trucks it was taken from the front half of the bed. Thus, toolboxes that fit GM, Fords, or 2nd gen rams short beds would not work.

However, after one phone call to Highway Products I was a happy man again. Highway makes a specific fifth wheel box (chest style) for the 3rd gen Ram short bed. I received and installed mine yesterday and it's the highest quality toolbox I've ever seen. The only downside to this box is that it's a little more costly than your typical Husky, Delta, Craftsman box.

Finally, Highway does not stock this box so if you want one you will need to wait about 3 weeks for delivery so they can fab one up and ship it out, but it's well worth the wait.

i pull a fifth wheel and needed a chest box. I bought a RKI that i like very well. Ranch hand makes a very big chest box i liked a lot but it has a very heavy lid with no gas struts at that time. i had a picture of my son dropping it on his fingers come to mind so i didn't buy it i think they have struts on it now

Rosco,

What size was that box you ordered?

Do they do custom sizes then?

I found their website at www. highwayproducts. com but the links do not seem to be working tonight.

My box measures 58''L X 19. 5H X 20''D. However, on the front of the box the bottom few inches angle in to accommodate the wheel well humps.

Some nice features the toolbox has include a gas strut to raise the lid, a light on the lid that you wire into your truck, and an adjustable tool tray that has removable dividers.

Also I checked Highways website earlier today and the products link wasn't working for me either.

Knewman, do you have a site for the RK1
