You know it used to be the day that I was able to perform my own maintenance on my vehicles, but since my knee surgery I just can no longer do.

Anyway waited for the "Coupon" for the oil change to come from my local neighborhood Dodge Dealer, and it is for $56. 95, not bad really... . Then I asked how much for the fuel filter change out and they quoted me $110. 00. Really wow talk about a mark up.

So my question is does anyone know of a mechanic in the Orange County area of Southern California, that is fair in their pricing so I can get this sort of work performed on my vehicle... .

Thanks in advance,

BaaRamU

The filter is less than $15 and you could probably train a monkey to do it. Maybe a member close by? Kid in the neighborhood? Sweet-talk the wife thru it? Maybe with the filter and an 1 1/8" socket wrench in-hand, you could have a local shop do it cheap?

I wonder how many hours the dealer is figuring for the job?

I think the mopar Fuel filter is like 40 or 60 bucks IIRC, at least that's what a guy at one dealership told me.

Anyway, get a fleetguard for around 13 bucks. And if you can get a neighbor for 20 minutes and give him 10 bucks or so I'd bet they might help you out.

It is really easy to change. This is my first diesel and I did mine in 20 minutes.

The fuel filter change is truely a "do it yourself" operation. If you buy the Cummins filter (not from the Dodge Boys) you will have enough money left over to take the missus out to dinner;) .

filters

When you pay that much for filters,You can feel like the 6. 0 owners..... Then you can also say this must be a good truck because the filters are so expenvise.

fuel filter

recently changed mine, did it on a whim and did not have time to do anything but go to the local dealer, $57+ at the parts counter! glad I changed it, at 8K miles it was absolutely black! but I will be ordering from geno's from now on!

Fleeetgaurd part #

What is the fleet gaurd part # for the 03 filter? Anyone know? Since they are only $13, it would be kinda nice to go get one of those instead of a $50-110 one. Thx

I bought my last fuel filter from a Cummins shop. Paid $8. 95. Same exact filter that I bought from the Dodge house but for about $30 more. I didn't know the Mopar name was worth that much

I just changed mine today using the Fleetgaurd P/N L1261F. The oil filter I used was LF3959 in case anyone is interested.

BaaRamU, If you were a little closer to me I would help you out and do the filter for a six pack and a nice cigar but you are just a tad out of the way for me. Maybe some other TDR member in your area has the same flat rate as I do.

It seems Dean and Kilby are using different fuel filters. I will have to check my filter stock to see who's side I want to play on. :)

Six pack sounds good to me and I am a little closer here in Connecticut, I don't smoke, so I am a cheap date :D .

I got the fuel filter number from Geno's catalog. He also lists the Stratapore Oil Filter for the '03's as LF16035. I think the LF3894's will still work if you don't want the fluted can.

BaaRamU,

PM Dkevdog he is the President of the So. Cal. TDR Chapter. I am sure he could hook you up with someone close to you, he is in Orange County if I remember correctly. If you have time tomorrow, Hunter Dodge in Lancaster is having "Diesels in the Desert" Hunter Dodge

Someone there would probably change it out for you.

Good luck,

Casey

Where do you guys get your Fleetgaurd filters? I'm northern Colorado and can't seem to find them except from the dealer. From what I understand the ones from Dodge are fleetguard or am I wrong?

Greg.

Fuel Filter

Dumb Question

With only 4,500 mine is not yet ready to change, but I do have a question, Does the top turn off and the filter come out from the top and the new one drop in. If so it will easier than on the 12 valve. in my 95.
