Friday I had to take a company road trip from Ct to mid state New Jersey (Lindenwold). We used my e z pass so we could save time.
$58 in tolls!
Unbelievable, talk about highway robbery!

Be thankful that you don't have a truck, $85.00 for a class 8 tractor trailer on any Port Authority controlled toll for tunnels and bridges if you don't have an EZ-Pass. That is one way pay, one way free.

I used to get into Manhatten for free and out for free using the third ave. bridge inbound. Freight haulers and garbage truck drivers taught me how to do it.

Welcome to my HELL!! Did ya at least tank up and stock up on bottled beverages in nj?

We did tank up, but company vehicle, company gas card, so it didn't matter. And it was a 14 hour workday as it was, so no time to shop, but at least now I am working as a contract engineer so who cares if I sit in traffic jams? Cha...ching!!

The company part in the first post went right by me.... Good luck with the new gig! Details? What type of engineering?

I retired 2 years ago from full time work. A few weeks ago my ex boss called and asked me to work for 4 months to fill in for his quality engineer that went on family leave. So I am now an hourly "contract engineer" until mid July. I am at Norgren-Kip in Ct. We make solenoid valves for many applications. The one with the issue is a valve on a train brake module that activates the brakes. So I spent some time under a train, that was a first for me.

Don't know if its still the same now? but back when in Texas I went to see a buddy in Norman OK from Wichita Falls Tx Jumped on the H.E. Bailey hwy and stood on it, They didn't tell me that there was a toll booth ever so often, when I got to the first toll booth gave the guy the receipt from the first one and he said that will be $65.00 please!!

What the Hell!! kind of toll road is this? He said slow down and it wont cost so much, OR!! you can wait and pay the speeding ticket???

I remember in the early 70s running the Garden State from APG, MD to CT I used to stop at the toll booths, stick my hand out the window and fake putting a quarter into the basket, then blowing the horn to signify that I missed.
I saved lots of money back then LOL, maybe $2 or $3 over the course of a year but it was a big deal then. A private didn't make much.

We have an express toll road across Toronto and the peak toll rate for cars is 80 cents plus 30.2 cents per km (48.3 cents per mile) and tractor trailer is 3 times that rate. Your American rates seem quite reasonable to me.

I paid at the toll booth at Hugo Oklahoma getting on the Indian Nation Turnpike North bound one night about 9:00pm. Went a few miles and the South bound lane lit up with red and he crossed over to the Northbound side and stopped me. Said It was illegal to run with fog lights on when it wasn't foggy or raining and that my fog lights (factory on 99 model) were not legal. Finally wrote me a warning and let us go. The code he put on the ticket referred to going through the toll gate without paying. I assumed someone had run through and he thought it was me. bg
