Mine has nuts and bolts that also go thru the frame rails, I don't know if theses holes were there from the factory or if the hitch dealer drilled them, I'm begining to think they were there from the factory.

Do they go through one side of the frame rail and out the other? If so I would check them to be sure they have a sleave in between the frame walls to give it support. My hitch is bolted to the frame as well, but the bolts only go through one side, they are inside the frame rails, it was a tricky install using a special wire to get them in place.

There are some pictures here, https://www.turbodieselregistry.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110068

the hitch frame in the picture sits on top of the frame, the side plates site next to the outside of the frame rails. You drill a hole in the frame, then fish a wire through the plate and the frame back to a hole in the frame that is large enough for the bolt to fit through. When you pull the wire back the bolt is pulled through the frame and plate, the shoulder area on the bolt next to the head has splines like on a slip yoke on a driveshaft, as the bolt is tightened the splines are pulled into the frame, which locks it in place. You will notice that one of the bolts has a square washer on it the other does not, the reason is because the frame tapers back in the rear, the washer on the rear goes between the plate and the frame, per Reese, apparently the 1500 frame does not taper and the square washers get used on the outside both front and back.

Need Hitch, looking at a Hi Jacker 21k as I need 20+, also looked at B/W, Pull Rite. Was told Valley/Husky 24K does NOT have an under bed rail kit for 03 3500? I wanted to be able to take the hitch out in case I haul something. Is this really important as I do not haul commerically or very often. I could put a piece of plywood over the rails? So Which hitch? Is HI JAcker a good one. I'm buying a used 2001 SnowBird 34+2 Fiver, its 12,940 Dry & 16K Loaded. I'm looking at a Brake controller & see a lot of posts on Brakesmart. Is Jordon OK as I have Adjustable pedals, is the prodigy controller out? Thanks for your input.

I'm sure I have enough truck for this. 03. 5 3500 Quad cab 2WD Dually, 6sp w/3. 73

I went with HiJacker as I liked the quality & construction and ease of operation on the "ultra slide". Several other family members have the regular HiJacker and really like it also. The Pullrite is a high quality unit also, but their autoslide is very pricey and for me was not the right choice, I have the Prodigy brake controller and am extremly pleased with it, very smooth.

Why do you need a 20k+ hitch if your trailer is 16k loaded? Look at the Reese Signature 18k, nice hitch, reasonably priced. It also has a 1 piece jaw instead of the two piece the lower level Reese hitches have. I have the Prodigy controller and it works very well, but from what I have heard the Brakesmart is the best.
