The swap was easier than I expected. Other than the inside lower oiling flange bolt being a PIA, all went very well.
Took it for a test drive, did plenty of stop & go & testing, brought it home & put back on the HX40.

Too much lag.
The HX40-16 is a stocker. It starts spooling hard @ 1700 rpm & when you're over that, increasing throttle immediately increases boost. It's very responsive. If you're under 1700 & floor it, it climbs fast to 1700 & then the needle swings fast against the 40psi governor.
The H2E-16 starts spooling hard at 2100 rpm or so. When you're above 2100 & give it more, it's slow to respond. :{
Options:
- Find out if it can be tweaked & tuned. Feel free to e-mail me, pm or post if you know of anyone that has tuned this one.
- Exhaust housing options?
- Make it the bigger of twins, maybe paired up with a HY-9.
- Make it the bigger of twins, with a bigger exhaust housing & use the HX40 as the primary.
- Other suggestions?
I'd sure like to make it work as a big single.
