I just got rear-ended while sitting at a stop light. A chevy truck ran right into my 6" drop and trailer ball doing about 35!

It didn't do any damage to my truck; however the front of her truck was hammered. From the way it sounded I thought my truck was smashed but I guess the sound was her truck getting thrashed.

So there... another excellent reason to own a Dodge 3/4 ton 4wd w/ Cummins turbo-diesel!

Had the same thing happen to me ,again no apparent damage to my truck ,but creamed his front end. The asked if my truck was ok & I said yeah but would want to replace my locking hitch pin because of possible metal fatigue due to impact. The guy was cool & gave me $25 &i was on my way. Back home my suspicions were confirmed when i had trouble pulling the pin out. Tapped it out with a hammer to find it was bent. Tossed it as would hate to lose a load beacause of a sheared pin. You might want to check yours. Ian

You guys running the stock bumper? I backed into a telephone pole 5 days after I got my truck and that piece of tin bent like a beer can. I got a 4 inch pipe wraparound to replace it. Now where that stinkin pole? #ad

correctly valved 5 speed. White, Brown Manf. brushguard and rear bumper,Sprayed in liner, Stock plate and AFC properly adjusted. Straight pipe. That's all for now. More to come.

And thats why I have a 6" drop with ball too.
Years agoe I had a chevy an some fellow bumped my bumper at a stop light. Now if it happens they will get the worse of it. Stay off my *** and pay attention is all they have to do. Son has a 99 and he replaced it with a heavy pipe bumper some time ago.

Yep, stock bumpers are flimsy.

I keep my pintel hook & ball in the receiver -- nicknamed it my "Geo Stopper" (with the plow on the front it's the "Geo Hunter"). Said that in front of one of those Gen-X chicks driving a Geo and she would'a shot me if she had a gun.

Same thing with my truck. person behind did not stop for unknown reason and plowed into my tow bar. No damage.

96 2500 extended cab full bed with a cap. 100% Amsoil with bypass oil filter. Everything else stock except bypassing the RWAL (rear wheel antiloc) operation so the truck now stop when i hit the breaks without turning my hair white.

I had a Volvo hit me from behind and the 5 in. drop went over and behind his bumper. He tried to back up and only spun his tires, as he could not pull the 2500 Ha Ha. He told me to just pull forward and he would hold his brakes. I could just see me pulling his bumper OFF or dragging him down the street. So I pulled the pin and had him back up and slid the hitch out of the receiver. Then twisted and removed my hitch from his bumper and grill. NO damage to my truck or 2" ball.

The moral of all of these stories seems to be to leave the hitch in receiver full time Right??? - Kinda like pro-active defense.

I think the truck can tell who caused the accident, and will punish you if it was your fault. I have the stock bumpers on my truck, and was rear ended by a older mustang. Checked my bumper, and no damage. Mustang wasn't in the best shape so I don't know how damaged his car was. About a month latter I backed into a lamp pole. Not only did it dent the bumper, but it chipped the paint off too.
