B+W is the way to go. Thin coat of grease, like mentioned before does keep it free. And yes, You can get the ball out if it does happen to rust in. Spilled some fertilzer in the back of my truck, got the truck rinsed out well but forgot to take out the ball and wash around it. Rusted in tight. Got under the truck with an 8# sledge and gave the ball a couple of wacks and it poped right out,

I'm not upset, even though I sound like I am

First of all, it's not my problem, it's B+W's. Second, all a thin coat of grease does is collect dust. Which in turn eventually collects moisture which causes rust. We've had countless customers who "have a friend with a B+W" who have had the rear end of a pickup suspended by a loader trying to bounce the B+W out. No hammer in the world would free it. Frequent lubrication may be all it takes to keep it free, but it's more than is required by other hitches. B+W has a great marketing dept, the hitch is so-so.

We used to sell an Atwood "folding ball". I actually liked that one. It was simple and worked good. Problem is it required a rather large hole in the box. Not too many people wanted it. We tried selling unagoose, but that nasty cable is worse than a lever.

For everyday towing, a solid ball is best 'cause there's no movement. Every single turnover ball will eventually wear and have some "slop", which you will notice. Unfortunantely for me, my everyday work truck is also my "grocery getter" so I wanted a turnover ball of some-sort.

This is me stepping off my sales pitch

I'm looking for a GN hitch myself. Had the BW before and did have a rust problem. Still a sturdy unit though. I like the way the UnaGoose looks, and like the safety chain hook attatchment set up. But how do you "pull up on the release collar" of the UnaGoose when it shows it to be completely flush with the bed?

I'm going to speak up as the lone voice who hates the b+w hitch. They might be great elsewhere, but around here in the land of roadsalt, they suck. Once it's rusted in place, you have a $500 solid mounted ball--non turnover... and it WILL rust in place. I use the one found on dad's website. It too will rust, but can be easily accessed from underneath and popped loose. With the b+w, once it's rusted, you're screwed. I tow a stock trailer that routinely weighs in at 27-28K and I haven't broke my Drop'n'Lock.

First time post, so I hope this works OK...

I have to agree with Cattletrkr on this one, the Drop'n'Lock is a geat hitch. I've had them on two 3500 Rams. Easy to install, simple to use and if they do get rusty over time you can still get the ball out.

We have a Putnam on one of our trucks. It is rated at 30,000 and seems to work great. We also have the fifth wheel attatchment they make for it and it works well also.

UNAGOOSE all the way. I will never buy any other gooseneck hitch as long as they are in business. I don't use a fifth wheel otherwise I would get a B&W. I have grossed over 40,000lbs too many times to count and never had 1 problem. I have had the hitch in 3 trucks now.
