Advice needed before buying truck

2 days ago I broght home 2004 - CTD 3500 DRW to replace my 96 - 2500 CTD that I totaled 2 weeks ago. I will need to remove the factory - class 4 hitch and install cass 5. I noticed that the rear bumper mount is actualy part of the hitch, so removing the hitch - no bumper mount! Has anybody been dealing with this before? The new hitch - it will be build custom and welded to the frame, just like the late 96.

Thanks. Joe.

Do a search on the Reese Titan and the Putman XDR recievers. The Titan bolts below the factory hitch. There is one called the super hitch or something like that also. There are installation issues if you want to replace the factory piece, do a search there is many threads on the subject.

Thanks SSage!

I have done the search and got so much info, it's not humanly posible to read all of it! I gues the bottom line is: the stock hitch has got to go, no question about that. I pull 14K dump trailer. I will have the new hitch custom fabricated and welded on to the frame. I had this done on the late 96 3/4 by local welding shop. I was going to cutt off the cross member with the receiver, but it appears that the cross member will have to stay. It's a structural part of the frame. Unless somebody has a better idea what to do with it?

Joe.

Joe,

Contact Weaver Distributing. I bought a Putnam XDR class V hitch, 6" drop mount and 30,000 lb ball for my 2001 3500 all delivered to my door for less than $225. 00. The service is excellent and super fast.
