Ram4Sam,

Like I said , Ive had my hitch going on 11 years. Your right, the head is HEAVY an larger than the new stuff. The RV joint I had install it when I got rid of the furd sc*&%#@ it up. I couldn't slide the hitch out! They didn't install spacers under the bed to compesate for the ridges built into the bed. That caused them to bend the bed floor and bind everything up. Should have seen me straighten the divits in the bed! The Rhino liner caused the hammer to bounce off it like a rubber ball! A friend and I made a custom mount under the bed. You can slide my hitch mount out(after removing the head) with two fingers! Got my money back and a job offer installing hitches! I do like the flat rails!

I used to have a 5er that I towed with my 4thram. A word of advice here. I forgot to release the locks so the plate would "give" while manouvering (sp?) the RV, and it caused the release mechanism to bind. I never was able to get the bind out of the dang thing thereafter, always had to tap the handle with a 2x4 to open and close the lock. This was a 15k Reese hitch. It's a dumb thing to admit, but I thought I'd mention it here as a reminder. Happy Camping!!!

I'm getting quoted $970 out the door price on a RBW Lil Rocker and Voyager controller. Inlcudes install, labor, wiring, etc. Or- $615 for a Husky hitch and Tenosha controller... ...

Either of these sound in the ballpark???

I have the B&W turnover ball hitch and love it.

I have pictures of it at http://www.doge-diesel.com/static/b+w.html

I've since sold the Dodge and now have a Ford. I just installed the new hitch on the Ford several weeks ago and it was an equally easy install. Hardest part is drilling the 4" diameter hole in the bed--measure about 20 times before cutting! Everything else bolts together. Tip--remove the spare tire before installing--it makes it much easier.

I also sent an email to them and they never responded. I phoned and they gave me the name of the local distributer that carried it.

It tows just fine and seems easier to hitch than the 20k Reese I used to have.

Dkevdog, That sounds a little high for the Lil Rocker, mine was installed for 625. 00 The controller that I have is an all electronic Draw Tite Acuwatch II I think it was 125. 00 it has given me good service so far. They installed the controller at the same time that I had the hitch installed and they did not charge anymore for that installation. Good Luck to you. Gunny

B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch

Well, I'm almost ready to spring for the B&W turnoverball gooseneck hitch setup with the 18,000 lb rated companion 5th wheel hitch for our new 3500. The only thing that worries me is the mounting arrangement of the companion 5th wheel hitch. Looking at the website, it appears that this hitch sits on the bed floor and is secured by tightening a vertical bolt on a post mounted in the gooseneck receiver to pull it down tight against the bed floor, then tightening 2 u-bolts around the vertical post to secure it fore and aft.

We pull a 13,500 GVWR 5ver, and I wonder if the bed floor is really strong enough to take the static pin load as well as the dynamic loads that will be imposed by this hitch arrangement. Is anyone else towing a heavy 5ver with this hitch? Have you noted any problems I should be aware of? Am I missing something in looking at the mounting arrangement?
