I love the use of the terms "engine brake" (Chevy) and "throttle brake" (Ford) and the fact that they didn't know what the sound was when the fan engaged on the Ram truck. Interesting comparison by a couple of guys who apparently know very little about trucks!

Good entertainment. Thanks Bugout.

Oh, and the quote "Top speed is all about horsepower." What? Towing a 12,000 pound trailer up a hill? From a rolling start? Seriously?

not to get totally off topic, I saw this at lunch today, it was on an F-250. I don't know if its factory or an aftermarket option. :)

That's factory. Carpenter Edition. It can be easily removed to allow the tow-truck driver easier access to the underside of the truck (where the oil and coolant are coming from) when the truck is loaded on a flatbed-style tow truck

Three different vehicles... the white kenworth takes in air via the scoops on the side of the bonnet, the purple w/star has the chrome intakes on top of windscreen... and the main difference is, we clean or replace the kenworth aircleaners twice as often as the w/star. The reason? cooler and cleaner air and at nearly $200. per cleaner it all adds up. As for the bus, same thing as it is supercharged and turbo charged , the cooler the better. cheers Phil.

oh and no.......I wont be attempting creek crossings in the bus..( im thinking the bed might get wet before the water gets in the intake)

Thanks mike. You know I like to walk the barn once in a while :-laf
Ok, that solves the placement of the air intake, and maybe why there's two. But that's my question. Why are there two on the tractors? I know the arrangement of the air cleaner (on the mack anyway) so in my mind, that must be a plumbing challenge.

Twin breathers extend the filter service intervals and allow a lot more flow than the engine could ever need.

I will get a picture of the plumbing on a Star the next time that I am outside......

Thanks Mike, lots of questions answered in those pix. It's even a Donaldson kit.
Powder, that looks like a CAT C15 ACERT. Stock setup. IIRC, one of their last on hiway engines.

that poor thing needs to be introduced to "mr SOAP"!

X20000000000,It amazes Me some of the engines that we work on are so disgustingly fifthly, And YES we charge More for the it,There are time we NEED to wash the engine compartment Before working on it, Its a sign of poor maintenance.

Yes, C-15 ACERT. When an exhaust manifold sleeve breaks and takes off it goes thru both turbos.....a beautiful thing to behold........if it's not yours....

It is nasty, but a couple of weeks with rainy or snowy freezing weather will create that mess when you are hauling 50% off-road.

We are having issues now with CAT air compressor, water pump and oil cooler cores being degraded in value as a result of the road chemicals eating the surfaces right off.

These trucks are in a very harsh enviroment for much of their service life in addition to being overloaded most of the time.

Mind if I ask what you are doing / hauling?

We are a dealer for Freightliner, Western Star, Sterling and Fuso Trucks. Also Thermo King and effective yesterday Oshkosh Defense products. We also have a tire division with an on-site retreading facility using a 20 tire chamber under this same roof that uses Goodyear tread rubber.

A lot of my pictures are of customer owned units here for repairs. The Star above is a log hauler. Also have many that haul wood chips, and the chipper is in the woods rather than at a mill. So a lot of off road conditions are encountered.

Also have long haul customers, that stuff is nowhere near as dirty...(at least under the hood, the interiors are sometimes a different story).......I'm sure you have witnessed that at your truck stop......

The bottom line is! Look at the real world facts! 90+ percent of the guys useing 2500's and 3500's for commerical use in Hot Shot duty are Cummins powered Dodge and Ram trucks!!!!
I wonder WHY?????

This was a customer's truck until 6.00 am this morning.....I'm not sure if it is a Freightliner or a Kenworth.......KW I think.....

I was told that the driver barely got it stopped and out the frigin' door before it went up.....pretty good fire when everything from the grill to the headboard is gone. That would include a 48" or 60" sleeper that melted down.
