What type of performance improvements would one expect from a HO Turbo, what kind is recommended and where is a good place to purchace them?

Please explain...

Could you please explain for a newbie... I see many post with people bragging about a HO turbo I assumed it was an aftermarket addition... Was the HO an option 'vs a standard output from cummins?

By HO I am referring to the ETH engine, the Dodge High Output version that was released in 2000 as a 2001 model and ended in 2002. I am not positive what the 2003 HO uses for a turbo but I think it is still the same. The HO uses the HX35-12, which is the same turbo that your truck came from the factory with. There are several aftermarket turbos available if that is what you are referring to, and they vary from an improved stock turbo all the way to turbos made out of components from several others that are very large, and even multiple turbo setups. Performance really won't improve much at all unless you have added the fuel that goes with increased airflow.

That help? If not let me know.

The 2003 HO uses the lame HY35 with offset larger outlet. It is the biggest limiting factor to adding power. You run up against high egt all too soon with it.

The addition of a "HO" turbo can be way down on the list of performance improvements. The gasser way of making HP isnt even close compared to Diesels. Usually the addition of a HO turbo is done after all the HP mods are done and EGTs are a problem and the HO turbo is added to reduce exhaust restriction and flow more air to cool the exhaust. By adding fuel which is very easy to do we can make a lot of power but being able to use the power without ruining the engine is the catch. I am making in the low 400s hp and still am using the the same turbo that you have but have changed the exhaust side housing to a 16cm from a 12cm and this was done to help control EGTs.

Hope this helps.

Now that I started getting more and more fuel, I kind of wish I would have gotten the 18CM housing on my HX40... I do fine now, but when Mr Gooseneck comes calling to hook up and burn up the road, I have to watch the EGT's... . I may order an aftermarket housing from Piers if possible later on. Right now its no big concern.
