Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hog exhaust experience

The system looks great except I had a few problems.

1) The photo copied directions lacked part numbers for the pipes and hangers.

2) The wording in the directions was cut off in the photo copy leaving me to guess some of the directions.

3) One of the pipe hangers was missing the half moon shim bellow the nut. I'm afraid the nut is going to pull through the stainless steel strap.

4) The directions instruct you to cut 20 inches off to fit a Quad Cad short bed truck which is wrong. I cut 19 inches off to be on the safe side and I still came up very short. I ended up having to assemble each pipe together only about 3/4 inch in order for the system to be long enough to clear the differential. I afraid the pipes aren't slipped together far enough to be solid and fear the system could come apart.

5) The direction do not explain how the pipe clamps should be positions on the pipe (1/2 on each pipe being mated. ) Steve cleared this up for me on the phone in a heartbeat but it would have sucked if they were closed when I was doing the install.



I sent this in a letter to HogPerformance and I hope they will work with me on correcting it.



The sound at idle is slightly higher than stock.

The sound of it as the turbo is starting to spin up is great!

The sound on the highway isn't much different to me with the windows up and no towing load.

Sorry I don't have an exhaust temp guage to tell you is the temps dropped.

Hog Performance Exhaust

DK, I have a Hog Perf Exh install was pretty easy work from the turbo back no problems. Sounds great did you get the 6" tip ? Thanks Steve B.

I think it's a 5" tip but I'm not sure. What ever comes with the kit. It took me about 4-5 hours to do. It's been a while since I've turned a wrench. My neck is killing me from lying under the truck for hours. If I did the system with someone else, and I didn't cut the extension pipe to short, I'm guessing the job could be done in an hour. How long did it take you?

I have no experience with the exhaust you are talking about, but I got a Jardine 4" (no muffler) from E-bay for $300 shipped. That seems unusual to me that they would have you cut up their "pre-fabbed system" to fit your truck. I understand the idea of making one kit for everything, but at least they could give you good instructions so you don't have to do the guess work. My kit went on in 1 hour and a few minutes including the few smoke breaks I took.

If you are worried about the system falling apart, and they aren't going to replace it, I would advise replacing all of the clamps that don't have hangers on them (if your kit does) with band clamps. I did this shortly after installing mine, no more blowby, no more drone.

Hog Exh.

DK, When I installed mine I think removing the old and installing the new took about 2hrs. Did you use a sawsall on the old exhaust. You'll like your new system. Thanks Steve B.

Removing the old wasn't very hard with the sawsall. I bought a couple extra 1/2" ratchet extensions and had a 13mm socket on a swivel so I could reach the two exhaust to turbo bolts. I had pre soaked them in PB for 1/2 hour. I made one cut with the sawsall and then just popped the rubber hangers off with a little WD40. I spent about 1/2 hour cleaning up where each pipe fits together as it was obvious a couple small dings made them a little out of round. I didn't want any problems sliding everything together when I was under the truck. The rest of my time was spent trying to fit the pipes together just right so I would clear everything and not have rattles.



Oh, another fun experience... cutting the extension pipe. As I don't have a vice. Picture a grown man staddling a 4" stainless steel pile on top of a sawhorse with v-block. Now picture him cutting with a sawsall. I rode that thing 5 feet across the driveway vibrating and bouncing around as neighbors drove by. I didn't know if I was angry, happy, excited or what. Lets just say I was happy to be done.

I'm still trying to work out the details with them on a system for my truck. It's been a few weeks and multiple phone calls to this point. I ordered a full system and what they sent was a "straight pipe" kit. I need the correct components to be able to put it all together.



I gott'a say that the pictures in their web sight look much better than what showed up at my door.



Not impressed at this point.

what does the system cost and where do you find it?

I didn't order it direct. I searched the internet and found it for around $600. It showed up just as pictured. Ship time was slower than I'd hoped for but overall I think it was well worth the money. The next time I might consider stacks though... .
