Re: Hogg Exhaust

We are a Hogg Exhaust distributor and are just down the street from them. I would be glad to give you all a very good price. Thanks 1-800-955-0476

Hey guys, I'm bringing this thread back from the dead once again. I just bought a 4" system from Jeg's that is actually a Hog system, although it was manufactured in the Philippines. It is 304 stainless with the 24" standard Hog muffler. Price was $398 on sale (item # 555-30336, and according to Jeg's they have only 2 more left in stock).

Anyway, I'm wondering about which way to install the muffler flutes. On the installation video they say to install it "flutes forward", and flip the muffler to show, but the video is so dark I can't see what they mean. I'd prefer a quieter sound and want to install it with the openings to the front, but I'm worried about the flutes clogging up with soot over time.

Have those of you who have had this system for a year or two noticed any increase in sound by having the muffler in the quieter position?

Thanks!

Yes sir! I installed mine (Hog) with the flutes forward. It's been over a year now and I do believe it is a bit quieter than before. I'm not concerned about the flutes clogging, I'm concerned about my EGT's ;) I'm happy with the system.

In March it'll have been three years. I turned the muffler around a couple of times early on, but haven't touched it in two years. I haven't noticed any problems at all. I love the system: looks and sound are great!

Thanks guys! I've got the system half installed, and am going out to put the muffler on now. I'm going for the quieter setting, so we'll see how it sounds.

On another note, I'm somewhat disappointed that this Jeg's/Hog system (except for the polished tip) appears to be made of 409 stainless, not 304 as advertised. The reason I say that is that a magnet sticks to it. The Jeg's website and the enclosed installation instructions both claim it is 304. I even asked the Jeg's rep before purchase if the pipes were really 304, and he said "If that's what our product description says, then that's what it is". Talk about false advertising.

However, it still appears to be a well made system for the money, with band clamps all around and a nice polished tip. Time will tell how it holds up in the Wisconsin road salt.

Well, the Jeg's system is installed... . mostly. What a P. I. T. A. !!!!

The installation "instructions", if you can call them that, were typed up by a foreigner with numerous typos and grammar problems. The only picture of the parts layout was so hard to read it was pretty much useless, and none of the hangers were numbered, so I had to guess where they went.

The fit was terrible, and I had to custom bend two of the strap hangers with the hot wrench and a bench vice. Even doing so, I'm not pleased with the hanger fit. I had two extra 24" long pipes left over (why, I don't know, as the instructions said that all pipes were to be used on the QC long-bed trucks). The fit behind the rear axle is the worst part, as there isn't clearance for the angle-cut exhaust tip to clear the leaf spring. Also, the exit point doesn't match the stock exhaust location at all.

I'm going to have to find a muffler shop that has a bender capable of handling 4" pipe and have them bend one of these extra pieces so I can clear the spring and use the polished tip.

Soundwise, the truck is pretty loud, especially under hard acceleration. There is no drone while crusing at highway speeds, but I was unloaded during the test drive. I'm hoping the angled tip will take away some of the rasp of the exhaust note. It's a little louder than I wanted, but maybe I'll get used to it.

Bottom line: I recommend that others avoid this Jeg's brand exhaust system like the plague. I'm sure the domestic-made Hog kits fit much better, but this Philippino-made stuff was terrible. In retrospect, I should have spent the extra $200 and got the Silverline system from Orange County for $599. Being a cheapskate didn't pay off for me in this case; lesson learned.

ditto

I just replaced my summit hog exaust with stan headers system and couldnt be happier, the downpipe flange is thin and did not seal well. The noise was almost unbearable and the joints leaked , wish I had gone with stans 2 years ago.
