The sound of your exhaust will be vastly different depending on which Hog muffler you ordered. Hog has 3 different mufflers, each with varying levels of loudness. Which did you purchase??

hog exhaust

can someone tell me how to get in touch with summit or is this another name for hog which sells the hog exhaust. I have the number to Hog but can you buy it through them or do you have to go through this summit company? Rico

Summit is one of the largest retailers for after market performance parts. Their # is 1-800-230-3030. the part # your looking for is sum-673201. and was $499. 99Oo.

Summit calls this their private label system , but if you talk with the right reps there they'll tell you that its a HOG system.

Also if you go on HOGs website and look at the tips you will see that they have a slash cut 4" for "private label" this is what you will get in the box. I called customer service at summit and they have sent me out the 5. 5" (Dropped shipped from HOG) at no charge. I told Summit reps that I have posted this info here and to expect alot of calls, I also advised that most are going to want the larger tip. Good luck its a smokin deal

oh... and for those that were keeping up on this thread , I flipped the muffler around and its still way loud!! I love it !!

I also have put my Volant cold air system on , another good descison... man does my turbo whine now... :D

I got it from Summit, and I didn't specify which muffler to get. I didn't know there was a choice:{

What's the number to HOG. I'll call them and see about a different muffler if I don't like the one I got.

OK ill clear this up, I literally just got of the phone with summit and HOG

HOG says that I have one of the 1st kits through summit. The couple original systems came with the 4" tip. This was not making folks real happy so the are now selling every system with the 5. 5 tip. If you order from Summit, Just tell them that you want the new stock I guess. Like I said HOG was more than willing to send out the right tip for me.

As far as muffler choice , when you buy tis kit you get the regular muffler that is reversible. so in a sence you 2 choices loud or louder.

Or... you can buy the augmenter which is quieter and is $130. this is the muffler only and available through HOG. sold seperatley from the system . hope this helps:cool:

Different part number

I ordered the sum-673201. This is for an '03-'04 Crew Cab SHORT BED! I was under the impression that if you had the short bed, you simply didn't use one of the sections. NOT TRUE!!

The part number sum-673203 is for a long bed! Make sure you give them the right part number. I am now waiting for them to send me a new kit.

The bad thing is that they send a sheet with all the separate part #'s on it, but none of the peices actually had a # stamped on them. Oh well.

I got it installed to the muffler, without the tail section or tip. It is definitely louder, but it is exiting under the bed right behind the cab! The cab noise will go down when I get the tailpipe on and it exits behind two tires and a mudflap:D

Other than the wrong length of pipe, it went on really well--very easy install!! I took off the OEM without cutting. That wasn't very hard, either. I guess with only being on my truck for two weeks and less than 500 miles, it didn't have time to get rusty!:D:D If anyone needs it, let me know. I won't ship it, however. The only part I could get undone was the downpipe. That was the only part that hadn't been crimped by the clamp.

I'll put all the pics in an album in Readers rigs. The OEM pics were shot with a camera woth only a . 457 MP resolution capability. I just got a new camera, with 5. 0 MP capability:D:D:D All new pics will be shot with it, so clarity will be SO MUCH sweeter!

Soler,

When i purchased my HOG a couple months ago, I was told that they only make one system - and it made for the long bed. Short bed owners (like me) will have to make one cut. I used a sawzall and I think I cut the section of pipe that connects to the back of the muffler. Took me about a minute to make the cut. The HOG reps told me about this while I was placing my order. I bought directly from Hog though.

If you type that number in on the summit web site and do a search then view the item, it says it is a summit exhaust system made to their specs by Borla

Just installed the Hog system this last friday (2/27/04) and man o man is that thing sweet. Not to loud in the truck but out side it sounds amazing. I couldn't be more happy :):D;)

Is the Hog System a complete system (turbo-back). Any "drone" issues? Some of the systems have a real "Br-r-r-r-a-a-p" sound to them when you get into the 1900-2100 rpm. range. Does anyone know if the Hog System has this sound? Thanks for your replies. Joe.

First off Soler Im sorry you didnt get the correct system , but this is the only system that Summit lists in thier catalog for the 03-&up Cummins. Also I found that contacting HOG regarding the tip works much faster . Just tell them that you purchased yours through Summit and you were told the tip was to be a 5. 5 and they'll ship 1 out.

Buffalo. , oh yea this system has sum bbbbrrrraaapppp !! as far as the drone , not so much, just real quick with my automatic when shifting out of third and building power under low rpm. & yes to turbo back.

Thanks. I'm calling Hog today. Hopefully I'll get both the new kit and the tip at the same time.

Buffalo,

The HOG system is a turbo-back system, but it does not replace the elbow or "downpipe". I ordered the HOG (directly from HOG)with their "standard" muffler and I do not have any problems with a drone whatsoever. There is a real sweet spot at the RPM range you mentioned. At highway cruising speeds the system has a very mellow, low growl - I love the way it sounds while cruising (my wife even likes it). On the other hand, when you are under heavy acceleration, this system is loud. If you want the HOG system, but prefer a quieter one, then I'd suggest buying the system with HOG's "Augmentor" muffler which is their quietest muffler. I've not heard the Augmentor myself, but the HOG rep told me that it is very mellow. In fact, the HOG rep told me that the Augmentor is quieter than the stock muffler, but I find that somewhat hard to believe. I'd need to hear it to believe it.

Thanks, CrimeFighter and Stephan Thomas. Stephan Thomas, You mentioned the Hog is a Turbo back system, but does not replace the "elbow or downpipe". By that, do You mean the cast metal pipe just behind the turbo that you remove if you put an exhaust brake on. Thanks, again. Joe (Buffalo).

I thought the down pipe was the piece that came off the turbo? Is this not correct. . what and where is the down pipe then?

yeh the downpipe is the piece that comes off of the turbo. When the kits say"turbo back" they are a whole kit from the turbo back. When they say"cat back" they do not include the downpipe

Ok. . that's what I thought. . I didn't understand what StephanThomas said when a turbo back system didn't replace the downpipe.

Hog exhaust

Just ordered one for my cummins from IMI. Supposed to be polished muffler and 5. 5in rolled tip. Everything is T-304 ss, so it shouldn't rust. The guy said that the price is 499. 00+ shipping if you mention that you saw the add on the TDR. Make sure you tell them that otherwise the price is 599. 00+ shipping. Anyways, he said they send out one length for the 03 or whatever and you have to cut a small section off to make it the right length for the short bed. Said it was not hard at all to put on and they send a DVD for the instructions. Mine should be here on Thursday and will be put on by Friday. Rico. P. S. I got the one with the augmenter. I did not want it to loud.
