The cut to make it shorter for the short bed trucks was really simple. . heck if I can do it anybody should be able to. My install last friday 2/27/04 went without a glitch. It was nice to have two sets of hands though.

Augmenter

When I talked to the guy at hog, he told me that the exhaust was from the turbo back 4in all the way. I thought that the elbow that comes off the turbo was the part that was 3. 5 in and that it was the restriction. Am I wrong in this thinking. Also, when I told the guy I wanted a not so loud system, he said that I should get the augmenter which was one of there mufflers with the system. He did not say anything about an extra 130. 00 which I think he probably should have if he was going to charge me for. I will call tommorrow to find out about this. He said the only difference between the 3 systems is there are a couple of baffles in the augmenter and it is 8in instead of 6 or so. I'll post results from phone conversation later. Rico

RGARZA , I was refering if you purchase the system through Summit you get the reversable muffler. If you want to replace it with the augmenter you have to get it through HOG and its an extra 130. 00. Im guessin if you buy your system through HOG you can substitute it in at no charge.

The last time I spoke with those guys(HOG) they were retaling thier systems at 599. 99 + shipping. (unknown type of muffler)

When I first started shopping for a HOG system I found it cheapist through summit and wanted to pass on a great buy is all . It was 499. 99 wih free shipping. :D

Just put my HOG exhaust on yesterday. I used the HOG 24 inch standard muffler right after the down pipe and the HOG 30 inch augmentor in the stock muffler location. Tightened it up very snug and am very pleased with the system. I tried just the augmentor first and the system had a sort of drone/low roar in the low RPM's (1300-1700) when the engine was spooling up. Putting on the HOG standard muffler solved the "problem". (The "problem" would probably not bother most people, I am just a cursed perfectionist. ) I went with the 5. 5 inch tip, which still looks huge. I will post pictures soon... Overall, very pleased and satisfied, still wiring the BD X-monitor, so no EGT numbers to report yet...

I finally got the pics in my rig gallery of the 4" SS Hog exhaust with the 5. 5" SS tip. . Take a look and tell me what you think.

lawdog1,

How difficult is it to locate the standard 24" muffler to the front just off of the downpipe?

You have got me worried about it being too loud as I just ordered the system from Summit and it will only come with the standard muffler. Now the question is this, should I mount it in Factory Muffler location, or as far forward as posible to reduce noise, and or drone.

Suggestions?

The wifey and I went to Maui a week after I bought the truck and I got them there. . If I wasn't going to a tropical Paradise I would have had trouble leaving my new truck :D:D:D But I forced myself to go ;) and the truck was there when I got back.

UPS dude brought my new kit. It went on today. I also reversed the muffler. Much quieter. The only thing I don't like about the system is the angle-out of the tail-pipe. It goes out behind the wheels at a 45* angle. I wish it did a 90* like my other truck. Oh well. It went together pretty well. It's amazing what will happen when you have pipes long enough to reach the tail-section:D

It came with a 4" tip:( I called Summit and was told that the 4" is all that the kits have in them. I called HOG on Monday, and was told that he is ending nothing but 5. 5" tips in all the systems going to Summit. It might come down to Summit getting this system back and I just but it straight from HOG.

Ho-Hum

It sounds great, tho. Having the muffler on the other direction was way too annoying for me. I hooked up the 5er yesterday and towed it around a little. I could barely stand the loud drone at 2000-2500 RPMS. It took almost 10 seconds to accelerate from 50-60 in 5th. Way too loud for way too long. I need some go-fast goodies soon! I'm bumbed-not bombed, and need a remedy. I turned it around this time, and the exhaust sounds like my old system with a Walker muffler. That's a good thing.

I miss the ole '01. 5. What a great truck to drive. I'm sure it's being fully enjoyed by its new owner (in fact, I know he loves it). It drove great and towed great. I'm sure the new one will be great, too, once it loosens up and I get an EZ and some stage 2 injectors:D

I'll get pics of the rest of the exhaust tomorrow

Has anyone that bought a different brand stainless system have theirs exit at a 90 behind the wheels? If so, I might be buying a different tail section.

Hey SOLER , Im not sure if it will work for you or not but go on HOG's website. I was just on there and they make a side exit tip. It might be worth a phone call to them to see if its the look your looking for. Plus seing that you got the wrong tip too maybe they will substitute that one ... . Once you get on www.hogperformance.com then go to products then tips , its" call for price" thou... Just a thought .

Hog or Magnaflow Exhaust?

I've been thinking about a Magnaflow with a 24" muffler for my '03, HO, 3500, 6-sp. I've got to admit that I'm somewhat curious about the Hog System. Do any of You guy's, in the Phoenix, AZ. area, have one or the other systems on your 3-Gen,s and would you mind letting me listen to it. I keep my trucks for a long time and would be somewhat stuck with whatever I buy so, I'm trying to do my homework before the purchase trying to eliminate the chance of making a big mistake. I'd really appreciate your help and opinions. Thanks. Joe.

I just called Hog. Instead of getting a 5. 5" tip, I got a deal on the 5. 0" side-exit tip. Thanks for the heads-up Crimefighter. :)

I'll bring this back from the dead.

Just installed Hog/Summit yesterday. I also got the 4" tip even even though the picture of the system on summit's site showed the 6" tip for the SUM-673201. Called hog and they said they sell the systems to Summit with the 4" tip. If you order from anyone else you get the 6" tip now. I told them I had a heck of a time with the 2 piece tail pipe and one of the band clamps tightened all the way down barely giving enough pressure. I think over time it will stretch just enough to loosen the system. (I used that one at the outlet of the muffler. )

I am really impressed with HOG's cutomer service. They were adimate about making things right. They are sending me the 5. 5" side exit tip and a new band clamp for free. They said I must have gotten a lemon band clamp.

Now I do have a question though. I put the muffler on backwards for the louder sound. Does flipping it around so the flutes are utilzed change it a whole lot or not?

I have only ran my exhaust with the flutes facing the rear of the truck to make for smoother exhaust flow. It sounds good. You are going to love it. I have the 5. 5 inch tip on mine. Looks just right.

I've had mine on both ways, and there is definitely a noticeable difference.

I was just curious, I couldn't understand why everyone was making such a big deal about the price of the Hog. I have seen Magnaflow for that price and cheaper.

"Hogperformance" is 304. That is all they sell.

For me it was a big deal. Since I have an early 04, the truck only had 3 1/2" exhaust except for the tailpipe which is 4".
