You are right, they look very nice. I installed mine a few months back. I was very impressed with the way it was built, everything fit, and fit right. The HOG exhaust uses ss band clamps as standard, you will not find that very many places, they usually run 12-15 dollars extra, each. Also the kit come with your choice of three different mufflers, all are ss and polished to a mirror shine, standard. They also come standard with your choice of tip, I choose the 6" x 24" one, 100 bucks anywhere else, standard. They are also one of the very, very few that have a 4" down pipe, the transition takes place in the first 8" from the flange. Most run 3 or 3 1/2" pipe down till after the bottom bend, not good. They include all hangers needed, along with all nuts, washer, and it is all stainless steel. In fact the whole kit is stainless steel, not just the pipe or muffler like most, Everything. They might not be the most popular, but they are the best.

Interesting their about the same money as a BANKS system but the Banks also comes with a NEW ELBOW from the turbo back. So its a FULL 4 inch with less bends.

Hey Mark,

Yeah, your exhaust looks great. I was in the warehouse with ya the other day looking at it :p and an AFE. I love the shiny stuff, and had conjured up in my head that I would get your system and have it polished or polish it myself. Then I saw this one already polished, so I thought I'd ask about it. It'll be after the new year before I'm ready, but I do a lot of research b/f buying anything.

The hogs are sub 700 bucks and are stainless down to the bolts? I think your stainless is the same way, can you play in that price point? One thing I DON'T know about the hog is what type of stainless it is... thickness gauge, etc. You however are very straight up regarding materials, thickness, etc.

I dunno man... like everything else, it's gonna be a big decision.

Thanks to Y-not and DPKetchum as well for their input.

I've been keeping my eye on the Hog as well, although at this point I've pretty much thrown my hands up in the air and resolved not to swap the exhaust till it warms up in the spring. I like the looks of the DPP exhausts as well (I almost bought one before something else came up), but the price point on the Hog is killer. Try giving DTT (www.dieseltrans.com) a call and ask for the TDR price on the Hog. . It was so cheap I could hardly believe it.

The only thing I don't like about the Hog is the exhaust tips look gigantic, a bit ricer if you ask me.

I am still very torn. . I would love to go with a dual 4" from DPP, but Mark doesn't think it will clear my B&W gooseneck hitch under the bed. And it may or may not clear the BFG 315 spare. And who knows if it would clear an aft-axle aux fuel tank from TransferFlow (if they release one some day for the 3rd gens).

 :)

I like the looks/price of the hog, and am hearing good things about it.

As for the DPP, I've been to Mark's place and actually had my hands on his exhaust kits. They are great quality, and I believe Mark is a real stand-up guy. However, they are 'spensive for sure.

I'm like you with my hands in the air. I dunno what I'll pick.

I'm not real crazy about exhaust tips myself... I like just the pipe. Thats why the polished pipe of the hog was so attractive. I know they include a tip, but if I can get the pipe slash cut, I'll toss the tip... or sell it on ebay.

Thanks for the posting for the TDR pricing... I'll definately check them out.

Found the HOG systems here for $600

Hog

Or if you call them direct they will sell you a system, mine is suppose to be in by Tuesday, I can't wait, I'll let you know about it, so far I have not heard anything bad. The system is 304 stainless and 16 gauge.

all exhaust in this post are PREMIUM systems. virtually ALL on the same plane.

but, as dpketchum said: Banks eliminates the cast iron elbow and the Banks mandrel bends are the smoothest. Banks is best by a hair or 2 hairs.

HOG has the best tip... . HANDS DOWN! i'm not sure of the utility of having such a "shiney" system on the underside of the truck -- it will look like crap in a few short months :D

i'll trade a banks tip for a hog tip... any takers?

Banks

DPKetchum,

I'm glad you like the Banks system. I called banks shortly after I got my truck back in March about an exhaust. They sent me the literature on it (as a matter of fact, I still get literature on it every month or so). The problem is that they are STILL calling me every couple of weeks. Hounding me to buy their system. I just can't do it. I don't appreciate telemarketing and high pressure sales. They may have the superior turbine pipe, but I'm not willing to support them. Please don't take offense, I'm sure they make excellent products. If not, they wouldn't have such a huge business.

There's no real good reason for me to post this, I just don't want you to think I'm ignoring your posts, as I very much DO appreciate your input.

See ya around,

Andy

Never had a call from them. I called them! They sent a card and some info and I asked to put on their e/mail list so I would know when their intake systems and fueling boxes come out. But never had one call me. Said won't deput their products until ALL bugs worked out. Used some of their stuff in the past and ALL was high quality with good TECH support.

A downside to the Banks system is if you want an exhaust brake the only choice you have is theirs, although it looks like a decent unit.

DPP all the way

I really like my DPP system. Mark was real helpful and it's a great system. The sound is awesome and it was a real easy install. They'll be the first ones I recommend to my friends.

Polished is both important and not important to me. Let me clarify that a little. In a perfect world, I'd like to have a 4" system to the muffler, and a 5" tailpipe with no tip. I'd like a completely polished tailpipe, with an aggressive slash cut (like my stock exhaust slash cut). I don't THINK I need a complete 5" exhaust, b/c at most, I'll have a box. Doubtful that I will drop the other $$'s neccessary to require a 5" exhaust. I would however like to have the 5" outlet with no tip. In order to get that, I'll prob have to find a shop that will part out an exhaust system and fabricate at 4" to 5" transition. :(

Personally i could care if polished or not. its under the truck!I did like the new elbow and the LIFETIME warranty of the Banks system as well as certified 50 state epa legal.

hey guys i am very new this is my 2nd post but i was wondering something. i saw a post that said with a tdr discount the dpp? exhaust was 550? i didnt know tdr members get discounts? i am very very close to buying the hog performance exhaust for the 600 bucks but if i can get the dpp? exhaust for 550 ill go ahead and do that.

Sorry if i am bothering anyone with my ignorance

I think that the price that David M posted of $550 was for the HOG, not for the DPP (Diesel Performance Parts) system.

As far as I know the DTT that he refered to is Diesel Transmission Technology. I was not aware that they sold exhaust. May be a new line.

Some shops do offer discounts for TDR members. I always ask before buy. Some do, some don't.

Oh. . and WELCOME to the TDR. This is a great place!

Andy
