Does anyone know where I can borrow or purchase a 4 1/2" diameter hole saw? I need one to install my stacks and would prefer not to spend $60. 00 or more for a one time use item. Thanks in advance for your help.
You should be able to pick one up that big from your local plumbing or electrical supply house also most hardware stores in my area carry them up to about 6". One thing to consider is calling a an electrician in your area that does commercial work as he will most likely have a hydraulic Greenlee Knockout that big and that will give you the nicest hole plus he might even do it for a slice of pizza and a cold drink or if you are real luck nothing. Some of your bigger equipment rental outlets that cater more towards commercial business then vacuum cleaners and stereos for Joe consumer might have a knock out you could rent. If you do find a hole saw to use I would recommend some how clamping a 2x4 under the section of sheet metal you are going to drill to give the pilot bit something to stayed centered on or else the hole saw will walk all over the place and make a really nasty looking cut. Hole saw's don't really like cutting sheet metal I would go the knock out route if you can. Hope this helped.
to prevent the hole saw from walking a good tip is to use some ply wood. Preferebly 3/4 inch. Cut the hole through it first. Then position it where the cut is to be made and use the side walls of this wood for support. The pilot bit can be eliminated by doing it this way. Plus the wood can be formed to fit exactly where you need it (presuming the corner of the truck bed). Just a suggestion for what I've done in te past. The suggestions above are also an excellent option.
They are not that expensive, I was just at Home Depot and bought a Blue Mole 4 1/4" hole saw for 16-17 bucks. I had the center mandrel, as they go for another 20.
Check Harbor Freight tools. They're cheap and you get what you pay for BUT if you only make 3 or 4 cuts with it and then never use it... you're not out a lot of $$.

The Home Depot by my house rents them as well in their large tool section. I was looking at renting one wheh I was thinking of a B&W hitch. Haven't decided on that, yet.
