silly question , how do you adjust the wastegate ???

alan , i for one would be interested it the item , its something i was looking into a year ago , but didn't get very far , when heating up the tires in the burnout box i have a hard time not making the turbo bark .

Mopar,

I've got mine adjusted with one of the original Edge adjustable elbows - hex head screw in the end - tighten for more boost, loosen for less.

You can also disconnect the rod between the wastegate actuator and the wastegate lever on the turbine. On a stock turbo, it has a pin in it that prevents you from adjusting the length of the rod. Drill it out (on an aftermarket wastegate actuator assembly, this is not necessary). Shorten the rod to increase boost (increases pre-set tension on the spring behind the diaphragm), lengthen to lessen boost (decreases pre-set tension on the spring).

thanks txram , i had the edge adjustable and it wouldn't make as much boost as the fixed dd one i had .

i am wondering if there is anyway of adjusting it off the turbo ? going to be putting on an hx 40 to do some testingat the track and i would like to be able to get the boost dialed in before hand .

Waste Gate Adjustment

Mopar Muscle,

To set your waste gate pressure off the car just hook up a small air pressure regulator..... You can find them for less than $20 at the local auto parts store.

And with most waste gates that use a pressure hose to sense the Boost pressure you can hook into the line and run a hose into the cab with the regulator on the end then you can change your boost as you drive.

This is very handy when testing the best boost pressure setting for EGT's or the max boost on a Gasser setup when you have different conditions like Fuel quality, Out side air temp, Altitude and varing driving conditions.

lets get this back to the top.

well i installed the majestic modified , previously run on sportbikes ram before majestic fondled it , HX40 on my ram last nite , it lasted about 30 miles , then started howling and made no boost that i could tell , limped off the the highway , at midnite and swapped back in my 35 by candlelite so i could get home ... . note to self , buy (10) 15mm open end wrenches to keep in the glovebox  ...

where are you guys returning these to ? there is only light rub marks in the housings , wonder if i should just send out the center for repair and rebalance ?

John,

Lemme guess. You thought you blew off an intercooler hose when you lost boost. Thats what I figured what happened too. :D

Do the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel still spin together? My Majestic prepped HX-40 lasted only 90 miles before the main shaft bearings went. If your wheels have bad housing rub, you'll probably need new ones and a main shaft. If you know of a good turbo shop, I'd let them look it over. Piers was going to rebuild mine for about 400 bananas.

How did you like the mid range and upper rpm range of the motor with the HX-40 on. Mine was REAL STRONG. It seemed liked the HX-40 added 50 HP/100 lb ft torque :). I miss it.

Mopar Muscle--I sent mine back to Majestic and they replaced it with a new HX40 but it wasn't bulleted and whatever else they do--I did use a 35 front housing machined out for the 40 so that I could use the silencer ring---chris

John, sorry to hear about that. Hope you get a prompt and fair resolution. My unmodified HX-40 gave out last week after about 3K miles - probably bearings - as it started howling and on inspection the compressor fins had started rubbing on the housing. DD replaced promptly and am up and running again. They told me this is the first unmodified HX-40 they've had go out. HEMIDart, I agree, the mid and upper end are phenomenal with the HX-40, I look forward for that thrust to come on every time I get on it.

hemi , exactly , i thought i blew a hose , i had a feeling when i installed it that i would be swapping on my 35 before i made the 68 miles from massdiesels shop to my house ... i should have grabbed a 15mm wrench from him . yes i also thought the mid and upper rpms were great , once the boost got over 25 its like i had another level on the box , and this was without an ez , just the 3's and the PE on 2 . my EGT still hit 1500 , but got there alot slower than before .

everything seems to spin ok , i'll check when i get home to see if the shaft is broken .

chris , who modified your 35 front end to fit the 40 ? i really don't know what to do as far as a turbo , Piers modified is tempting , but if it don't do much for my EGT's then its a waste of money to me.

guess i'll call majestic to get the ball rolling .
