The only place I saw any info was in the ADS publication 'Nozzle Chatter" It was an advertisement comparing the maps of hx-40, super 40, pro 52. And that was around 6 months ago.

You subscribe to that?

The bottom is mass air flow. They measure the volume of air they'll flow in mass rather than a volume measurement because it doesn't change with pressure.

I just had an interesting conversation with Mel @ Holset Aftermarket.

The Super 40 has a different compressor (as you knew), but the turbine side is basically the same as a stock 40. However, it should be MUCH more reliable than a stock 40 because it turns fewer rpm for a given boost level. It will make as much boost @ 130K rpm as a stock 40 does at 150K rpm. It's a much more efficient compressor wheel. 16cm and 18cm housing are available- same as regular 40.

The Super 52 turns even fewer RPM (112K or so). No word on peak boost levels. It requires an adapter to mate to the the manifold, while the super 40 is a drop-in.

Mel mentioned Hi Tech Turbo as the go-to guys on these new chargers. .

The PRO 52 shows it's on the map to around 4. 2 PR. If that is the case then running past 45psi (4. 16PR) would result in less flow and higher air temps. I guess 62psi (5. 36PR) is a little too far off the map to live very long. That's 29% higher PR then Holsets map says to run it to.

The supply is just trickling in, and demand is far exceeding supply at this point. By this fall, you should be able to call HTT and order one, or they might have it in stock.

Mel wouldn't even talk about pricing other than to say that there is no MSRP-- they deal with the suppliers directly.

IOW-- thge price of these things will ultimately be set by the guys like HTT that will sell them. No surprise there.

If they come in at $1200ish (super 40) or $1500ish (pro 52), they would certainly be an interesting option for the budget bomber.

EDIT: Could this new Super 40 be *the* top charger of choice in a twins combo???

I did a little more digging on these today.

The Pro 52 might be a touch big as a streetable single charger (it may be a little slow to spool for most). Until there are a few guys running it to confirm, this is what I am leaning towards after talking wiht a couple different vendors.

Price is probably going to be in the $1400 range.

The Super 40 looks to be a decent turbo. It seems like it is going to spool a little better than a standard 40 and offer better airflow on the compressor side. Although they have made some changes in the shaft to help with durability it is still the same diameter, from what I was told, but as Hohn mentioned it will be turning fewer RPM's which will help greatly in the area of durability.

Pricing on the Super 40 looks like it will fall in around $1000.

Where does one find a adapter for bolting up a HX50 with the larger flange??

Currently I'm running DD3's & Powerpuck. Will this combo work? Or to much lag?

Thanks Gary
