what are the main differences between an HX40 to a Super40 and what what are the differences between an HX50-HX55 and the Pro52?

Who makes a down pipe to make it work on a third gen?Or second gen?Is the hx52 exactly the same as the pro 52?Will there be a wategated version in the near future?

Kenny. taylor,

I would just like to thank you for becoming a member to answer some of the questions we have about these chargers.

How would the Super 40 work compared to the regular 40 in a Twin setup.

Does it use the same size shaft as the regular 40 or is it bigger.

Jim

Kenny, welcome. As you will soon learn these guys have more questions (and good ones) than you will ever get at Cummins in a 6 Sigma meeting.....

Holset need to get aggressive in this business, as it is booming.

I'd like to correct a few items in this thread. The Super40 and Pro52 Holset turbos are available from any Holset Distributor. These turbos were developed to be out of the box ready for your Dodge Ram - meaning no internal mods necessary. These turbos are high speed balanced from the plant. The Pro52 does require some exhaust mods as it has a 4. 5 inch turbine outlet with a half marmon flange (flat). The Super40 has a 4 inch outlet with a full marmon flange (beveled) so depending on what brand downpipe you have you might have to machine the turbine outlet flange flat to accept your current downpipe. Both turbos have a 16cm turbine housing. The super40 is wastegated but the Pro52 is not. Max rotor speed for the 40 is 130,000 and for the 52 it is 112,000. Who else knows how to turbo the Dodge Ram besides the company that builds the engine. Holset is a division of Cummins.

By the way, the part numbers are as follows:

Super40 -- 4027888

Pro52 -- 4027895

Pro52 adapter -- 4038822

Another item of interest, if you have an 03-early04 Dodge with the HY turbo and 3" exhaust (stock) you can use part number 4035657 to go to a full 4" from the turbo. This is the exhaust elbow for the 04. 5 - 05 Cummins 600. It is available from any Holset Distributor as well.

As for pricing, Holset does not publish a MSRP. It is up to the Holset Distributor to set the price for his market.

The biggest difference between the Super40 and a standard HX40 is the comp wheel.

Regards,

Holset

Pushing 500HP might be stretch for the Super40. As always, it depends on the rest fo your set-up. For an street driven automatic I'd look a twins with a Super40 and a 3804502 HT60 Holset. The HT60 evolved form the old HT3s and is a lot more effficient. They do cost a little more but they are worth it.

Remember -- "Speed costs, how fast do you want to go?"

Great posts Kenny, thanks.

If a user has an HX40-16 now, and swapped in the Super 40 or the Pro52, what would we see as far as spool up & EGT reduction?

thanks

You will see a small drop in EGTs with the Super40 due to the width of the comp map. The Super40 really shines on the upper end of the scale with a high of 4. 5 pressure ratio.
