So here is the deal ever since I did away with the stock exhaust I have noticed a serious increase in smoke. I have been eager to make mods to my truck but now I am concerned about increasing the smoke. Have any of the other strainght pipe guys noticed more smoke with just the pipe change? I do live at 7000ft so I know that is going to have an effect but I don't remember the smoke befor. The truck only has 35000 on it, and I'm the only owner so I know that nothing has been done to it. Lots of power and it runs great, but I can smoke out traffic on the road. What gives? what should I be looking at. I've been arround gassers for a long time but I'm relatively new to the diesel game.

I recently install a 4" exhaust system with a free flow muffler and resonator.

I too, have noticed more soot on the fender.

My first theory is that the old muffler was catching the soot.

Good question though. Maybe somebody has a better idea.

I believe the original muffler and resonator caught quite a bit of the soot. I definitely noticed a difference when changing to straight pipe. I don't mind the extra smoke, keeps people from tail gating:D If your concerned, they do make soot traps or more technically correct - Diesel Particulate Filter,

here is fleetguards version

BTW, MRiley, you need to drive your truck more, I'm at 96,000 already.

More air

Sounds like you may need to upgrade your air intake system with say and aFe Stage-I or Stage-II, Scotty-II etc. and a Turbo Air Guide (TAG).

I am running a 4in straightpipe along with a KN FIPK I Noticed a whole lot more smoke after the exhaust install. I have even been pulled over a couple times by cops thinking that I put off-road diesel in my truck.

I like smoke, wish mine made more of it at times.

But my truck doesnt smoke unless your under heavy throttle applications. And only for about a second.

4" straight, 90hp injectors, BHAF filter.
