After spending most of the day reading threads after a search I couldn't find anything definitive.



What I am trying to find out is if I can make my own transmission flushing machine?



My idea is to use a reasonably sized (5-10 gallons) polyethylene tank (like from an electric sprayer) and rig it to flush my transmission.



What I would like to know is:



1. What do I need to have to do this? Adapters, line size etc...



2. Do I need some kind of pump to supply pressure to the return line? If so, what PSI pump should it be?



I am going to switch to Amsoil atf and I want to get ALL the old fluid out in one procedure.



I need all the help I can glean from the TDR membership please!!

Get a large drain pan & 2 feet of 3/8" hose. After you change the filter & pan gasket fill the transmission with fluid. Pull the cooler line at the rear of the transmission & attach the hose to it so it will drain into the drain pan. Block the wheels & set the emergency brake. Put the truck in neutral (transmission won't pump fluid in park) & start it. Watch the volume of fluid to the drain pan & when it starts to slow down turn the truck off. Top off the fluid & repeat untill you get fresh fluid out of the hose. Reinstall the line to the transmission. Fill the fluid to the proper level. A full blown flush machine is about $2,500. . This will do the same thing and save you either money or a lot of time designing one & building it.
 
A mechanic at work took a gallon jug and filled it with mineral spirits and got a electric fuel pump from carquest. He hooked the pump to a suction hose in the jug and then hooked the other end to one of the transmission cooler line then put the other transmission line in the jug and just kept flushing it .
 
oh yeah he used more than one jug of mineral spirits. he would get new after what was in the jug looked like s&%t.
 
Anyone doing a flush job on a trany must be very carefull of running it dry. It only takes a few seconds to damage the converter/pump bushing. Then you, at the least could have morning sickness where it has to refill the converter.
 
I'm not planning on running paint thinner, water, dry cleaning fluid, gasoline, or anything else through the transmission other than transmission fluid.



I also am not going to let it run dry. What I'm planning on making will pump new fluid in as the old stuff comes out. This can't be that hard to make and use safely.
