And is the 14cm housing wastegated or non wastegated???? I thought that it needs to be wastedgated. I also have a line on a used HT3B from a friend of mine. The way he talks he has a 'pile' of them. .

i dont have a ht3b yet. but if you can find me one cheap pm me i would appreciate it. the 14 housing is non wastegated i think you have to get the 12 to get wastegated. understand this is all theory i am trying to peice together a poor man who can weld set of twins. i think what i am doing alot of more people would do if they knew that it would work as far a i know jim fulmer is the foremost athourity in this arena who is not scared to share info. who else is interested in building twins for themselves speak up. let us learn together. i will be the 1st to admit i need help in this area. i can cut fab and weld i just need to know what and where i know the when and how.

I don't know that you will find a decent HT3b for only $100.



They make 14cm wastegated housing for the HX35. If you go with an external WG the WG housing is not a necessity.



Jim Fulmer has said that a stock HX35 and a stock HT3b will not spool all that well. Personally I do not want to give up much streetability on my daily driver in search for higher HP. JMHO

i know that this is not a perfect combo but it will buy me some time and is better than spending $$$$$ on one hx40 which wont help egt's anyway. at least not at the level i want to go. i will eventually mod my hx 35. but this should get me at 500+ and still be able to keep the egt from pegging. it doesnt matter whether it is wastegated or not i will have an external wastegate.

Jim has also said this combo is not that bad either. what do you expect out of a poor man's set up. i am betting it better than an hx40. realize the hp range i am talking about. if i am making a mistake tell me why. i promise i will not flame ya!

you will have a little more than $100 in the tubing not alot though its around $30 each for the 90*bends



if you have not got hte 14 housing yet I would spend the money on a wastgated one and forget about the external gate



I have a friend that has alot of used 40's you can get for around 350-400 but they need rebuilt and the right exhoust housing witch is another $275 or so not sure if that is in the budget for you right now here is his info Bryan Robson

i have had a set with my twin set up b/c i bought a 97 that has been struck with the killer dowel pin so right now i am reaserching how i am going to fix this. i know while i have the cam out i am going to go ahead and put a piers regroung cam in there. this ought to help my twin set up out once i get them done.

yea an ht3b housing will work but they vary greatly from what i understand. you can get a modded from piers for cheap and i would go that route. this is info i have found out much of which comes from the home made twin guru... ... Jim Fulmer.

Sounds good. Going to have to work on getting a transmission in the truck b4 anything else. Feels like im driving a Snowmobile right now. LOL

I've been kicking around the idea of twins too. I was thinking that a 12cm housing on my HX40/35 would be great but would switching to a 14cm gated housing allow me not to use an external w/g? I am 'assuming' the drive pressure would be too high to use the 12 hsg without an external w/g. If not, then it would be alittle easier build. I probably would team it up with a 22 or 23 housing on the 3b. Thoughts??

I've seen plenty of folks use the 14cm² wastegated housings on the top turbo with no other external wastegate...



If you don't fuel it too much or turn insane RPM's - I see no reason why you can't go that route.



The plumbing sure is nice and simple when you use an internal wastegate on the top turbo.



A 12cm² wastegated housing is a bit small, but would spool like a son of a gun... . use this in conjunction with an external wastegate set to open sometime after the internal opens... and I bet you'd have a really good combination of spool, drive pressure and overall performance.

wow this thread came back from the dead. one thing i would like to repeat go ahead and get the piers modded ht3b i have heard its well worth the cash. as far as the top no doubt i would use a 35 b/c they are so hard to kill and they spool decent but most of all they give massive bang for the buck. like free with only a mod of $ 150 for wastgated 14cm housing. i think piers modded ht3b is around 600-700. get some plumbing start welding and cutting and away you go!!!!

I still plan on using my Turbonetics 'Racegate'... sure, the plumbing will be more complex - but I already own the thing.

Now tell me why do you need to wastegate the top turbo. I run the 35 now with a 14 housing, no wastegate, and was thinking of putting it on top of a 55. Wastegate the lower but why the upper? If I need to I can get another housing. Oh, this housing was $150 with no gate.



Also, by the time you buy and fit the tubing for the air, the supply for the bottom turbo and the intercooler, I think you will have more time and $ spent than you think. And then like George said, the 90's for tieing the two together + some fitting there and more tubing, it really is a job. but a good feeling when you through.
