Homelink

Has anybody had any luck with the HomeLink garbage on an '03 Laramie? MAN that thing is frustrating the crap out of me. I've pushed, pulled, prodded, beat, cussed, and almost ripped my garage door opener down over the past 3 weeks. I swear I work with the thing for two hours every night. I've been on their website, and read the owners manual over and over. I've done exactly what it said, and even tried stuff it didn't say.



I buddy of mine has a Tahoe with homelink. He's never had any success with his either, so I'm wondering if this thing is a non-working gimmick or something. Of course it's ENTIRELY possible that he and I are just blazing idiots... .



Sure would like to get it work. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'll buy the beer if one of you guys that's smarter than me will come and make this thing work!!!

Im not smart and all I did was read the manual, follow the directions and it worked on the first try on one and the second on the other. Im guessing you have one of the openers that changes codes? Did you get into the opener and switch whatever it said you were supposed to switch to get it to work?

yeah, I'm pretty sure mine has the "rolling codes" that both the manual and the website address directly. I'm sure that it does work, I'm just at my wits end and wanted to hear a success story from somebody. Thanks for chiming in, you've given me some motivation.

Im famous for throwing the directions to just about anything aside or at most giving it a brief glance. I was just checking to see if you were like me. You might want to post the brand of opener. Wish I could be more helpful.

Almost all my DC cars have had home link. I had to call the 800 number one time and they were very helpful. Have your make and model of opener available when you call.

One thing I have found is you get better results if you train it as close to the overhead as possible. If you have rolling codes, it is also helpful to have the owners manual for the opener.

Rolling Codes and Homelink

I kept killing myself too till I read the manual for the 1,000,000th time and finally read what it said, not what I though it should say. I have an American Overhead door opener with rolling codes and this is how I got it to work. Push the learn button on the opener head unit. Then press and release the desired button on the homelink. Wait a second or two then press and release the homelink button again. I kept trying to hold the darn button down like it says for a non rolling code opener and could never get it to work. This may not work for you but it did work for me, good luck.

It worked for me

This is my third time with the Homelink system. I have gotten it to work on the Durango, the 02 1500 and now my 03 2500. The biggest problem is the rolling code. It worked for me the first time each time I programmed it. I have a Liftmaster door open with rolling codes. I had the trucks system recognize the garage door code via the opener then I depressed the rolling code button on the main system unit, worked for me just fine. If you would like step by step for what worked for me give me a PM and I will reply and hopefully work with you to get it going.

I have a 00 Jeep with the Homelink and the button on the overhead must be pushed and held for one or one and a half seconds. On the opener you just tap the button. You may have it programed and just need to hold the button down longer.

Follow these instructions exactly:



1. Press and hold button 1 & 3 (both outer buttons) for 20-30 seconds. This procedure erases any existing codes. The reason you must do this, is that the homelink system will not over write an existing code.



2. Using your garage door opener, press and hold the desired homelink button, and at the same time press and hold the garage door opener button for 5 seconds.



3. If your garage door opener is fairly new, chances are you have rolling code. This is easily determined by pressing the homelink button for 2 seconds. If the door does not open, You got it. In which case you must find the little button located on either side of the opener (behind 1 of the lights. ) Press this button then run out to your truck and press the corresponding homelink button for 5 seconds. The opener light should flash or turn off. This indicates a sucessful programming.

Got it to work guys! Was definately USER ERROR!! I appreciate all ya'lls help. Just like me to make a mountain out of a molehill... . Oh well, on to something else. I wonder if I can program HomeLink to somehow roll down all my windows with one touch?? Any Ideas?

If I upgrade to the Homelink unit do I need the remote for the garage door opener to get it to operate my g-door? Cuz I don't have it, that was the reason for the homelink upgrade.

You will need the door opener to program the HomeLink system. You can usually get one from your local Menards / Home Depot for a couple of bucks.
