diesel up again

WELL, you have to consider the circumstances where a generator of these types will be used, and choose accordingly. Most, if not ALL, the times we use supplemental power, are in rather remote and isolated conditions ( who needs a generator in a full service CG!) - Wilderness sites that provide little other than a pit toilet, Usually, campsites in these settings are rather large and with good separation - and frequently allow generators to be set off at some distance away from both OUR campsite, and the sites of other campers. Under those conditions, we have never had any complaints, nor were we ourselves bothered by the 67 db noise of our single-speed Honda EX1000. A generator of the class of the Yamaha would in MOST cases, be running down at the low-RPM 60 db level, which is about *4 times* quieter in sound volume than 67 db - and even at full song, the Yamaha is only about the same db level as our current EX1000 - but fully capable of running everything we RV with - it is also about the same weight as our current EX1000...

STILL, even though db levels can LOOK the same in a statistic, the type or specific frequency range of that noise CAN make a significant difference too...

Food for thought...

It's easier to move two 50 lb Honda 2000's if lifting is a concern. And easier to find storage for two small gens vs. one big one.

In cooler weather we only take one EU2000.

I have two EU2000s mounted on the back of my fifth wheel in a enclosed aluminum tool box. With both of them running, you can not hear them inside the RV. You can however "feel" them. The lid to the box vibrates. Once I get that tightened down it will be even better.

Good new too is it is very quiet for any and all neighbors in the area when they are running. If I was in a campground though I woul take them out of the box and set them on the ground. They seem to be quiter on the ground.

Pictures of the set up in my readers rigs.

I will also echo everyones comments on why two is better than one!!!

If your going to get a gen get at least a 3000watt, most airs take 2800 watts on start up. I have the Honda eu3000is and love it.

I borrowed my cousin's 2000 ei and tried it on our 13. 5 btu AC. With good management it would run the AC. .

That means generator on high speed and no other load on line. Would start the AC just fine.

Extension cord had to be 12 guage and not more than 25 feet long. Other small loads could be added after getting the compressor going.

If there was no extension cord at all, just the trailer pigtail it could pickup the AC from idle,,,,just

As I say it takes a bit of management. If you're expecting the generator to pick up the AC from idle with other load in place you might maybe disappointed

I use my 2000 and run the AC in my BigFoot camper on "low" and it works that way. Enough to fall asleep in hot MT weather. I think often of two but am moving toward a 12volt AC system, more battery and solar. Trying to get all appliances to diesel and battery. But I am not normal :). The Yamaha was way to noisy, the 3000 too heavy and if you can afford 2 2000's you will have a ton of what you need anywhere. George

I appreciate all the VERY helpful comments - think I'll go ahead and order a new Honda 2000 from that Alamia outfit - best price so far. Now that we have relocated to eastern Oregon, not as likely to need the AC anyway, and the compact size and light weight of the Honda is a BIG plus on my nearly 70 year old back, especially after 2 operations...

Thanks again! :D

One slight mistake picking up the heavy generators will cause 70 year old back, no matter what your age. I have the two 2000I's and parallel them if need be, but most of the time we are at the North Coast and only take one. I haven't had to refill the fuel tank even after a week. You'll like the 2000 and your neighbors will too.

YUP - ordered the Honda from Alamia - as stated, $875 to my door - but they are out of stock, and can't ship for a week or so. No biggie - not quite RVing weather yet anyway... :D :D

I kind of wish I had traded my EU2000 for an EU3000 instead of going with the Onan I have. Just would have needed to figure out a way to get it in the gen compt. My Onan does not control freq and voltage near as well as the Honda EU2000 I had before.

If the batt are fully charged and no other load my 2000 will run the a/c until the first cycle of the compressor, then it trips. If I run on batt at night then run gen it takes about an hour until the microwave can be used. In parallel no problems at all. If not using a/c I run one gen out of fuel then use the other one to even out run times. These gens are so quiet no one knows it's running, most of the time it runs at idle in eco mode, microwave will kick it up as well as other heavy loads, toaster, etc

"Gary try www.northwestpowertools.com 1-877-495-8665 they are in Spokane and had the best price when I bought my EU 2000. They don't show prices on their site anymore. "

I've bought from them before, and get their catalogs regularly - but last time I looked at their prices on the Hondas, they were higher than Mayberrys, and that didn't include shipping - anyway, I've already ordered the 2000 from Alamia for $875 - $25 cheaper than Mayberry, and that includes shipping.

Thanks to all for the pointers and helpful info.
