Ive had our little 2000 for about a year. have never tried to start the AC yet. Now that i know it maybe will Ill try it. MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE OIL . A buddy of mine didnt . burned it up. The book says, 20hrs the first time and every 100hrs after. Those hours come real fast if your using the AC + other things.

Recent experience w/ my eu2000:

I bought this gen after reading results of some on this forum and the camper mfg. owner telling me it would work on the ac in their units. About 3 wks ago picked up our new Outfitter Pop-Up Slide In capmer just North of Bolder, CO. It has an 11,000 Btu AC in it. The first night fired up the generator & turned on AC even though it was cool & we didn't need it. It seemed to work fine. Don't think we ran it very long though (this is important, stay tuned). Didn't start gen for another few days, cool weather. Went to S. CO. to rock crawling competition. Tried to use gen & ac. Wouldn't work at all. The gen kicked out & red light came on & stayed. It just wouldn't work..... We had put in a 60 jet in Bolder. Arrived home in Shreveport, LA. Put in stock 62 jet. It wouldn't start ac..... It would just barely power 350 watt drill. Took it to Honda. They said it would bog down w/ 3 amp load. Something wrong. They didn't find what was wrong, but after disassembly & reassembly it worked. Maybe trash in carb????? Took home, powered drill & fan together fine. Would start ac initially, but then later would kick out when compressor cycled on again. I think after the pressure completely bleeds off through the expansion valve then the unit starts easier (less load less amps), once the unit is running though, the pressure doesn't bleed off completely and the compressor has to buck that residual pressure upon re-start. More load, more amps. I have ordered a start up kit for the Dometic ac. Friend in ac business told me about these. I think it is esentially a capacitor which stores power and discharges upon start up of the compressor thus reducing amps the gen must supply upon start up. If that doesn't suffice I will rig up relays that will momentarily turn off fan and converter (battery charger), long enough (2-3 sec) for the start-up load/current draw to reduce to a level the gen can handle. The fan draws 3-4 amps, and the converter about the same I guess (3 amp output). Well, that is about 6-8 amps which is significant considering the continuous amp rating is 13+- amps. The continuous amp rating for the ac is 9. 5 amps & locked rotor is 50 amps. My understanding is that the locked rotor is the start-up current draw. The Dometic reccomended gen size is 2500 watt unit. At 120 volts that only works out to about 20 amps, so that tells me these generators can handle much higher loads momentarily than their rattings indicate.

Something else I'm toying with is seeing if an inverter could be hooked up to the eu2000. I know two eu2000 units can be hooked up together. Guess there is some kind of control connection to sync the inverters, maybe that could be done w/ a battery powered inverter as well. Hope the start up kit does the trick, really am curious about the experience of others that have used these units on a lot of rvs w/ no problem, even w/ 13000 Btu units. Maybe that was just a really good unit... ... ... . ??? Does anyone know if separate inverters can be synced some way???

We boondock every weekend starting Friday, ending Sunday, take 3 10 day vacations in addition to get up in those lovely mountains, but we also are way too old to be doing it like when we were young. We run a honda powered Generac 5000wt generator if we need air conditioning, but that is rare, and we use it to refresh our 4) 6v golf cart batteries which power an inverter that runs everything, tv, vcr, dvd, satellite, stereo, everything but ac and microwave. My dogs can be free, and OUR batteries get recharged in God's Kitchen from may through September, and our Ram makes it all easy and non-stressful. I wouldn't call it primitive, but I would call it Essential Therapy.

Thank the Lord for Generators, Campers, and Diesel Powered Rams!

I guess my 15000 would be out of the question... ... ... . y'all had me going there for a minute... ... ... ... .

I am moving more and more away from towables and toward diesel pushers. It is so conveniant to just set the cruise, get up and walk back to the head and not have to get out of the coach. Plus stop by the refrig for a cold water on the way back to the flight deck... ... ... ... ... .

"Since when does primitive camping include air conditioning? I thought it meant sleeping bags on the ground, pitching a tent, bathing in lakes or rivers and building a fire for cooking.

Jean- who has a tent larger than some RVs... "

Unless the truck is parked in the tent, then I'd probably have to say... it's primitive. :D

Bought a 28' Desert Fox Toybox and one of the options on it is a Onan Micro Quiet 4000. This is a nice unit. It runs our AC and Microwave at the same time!

Oh that reminds me of a news story from here a few years back.

Seems there were four young Arab Pilots taking F 16 training in Fort Worth who decided to rent a Motor Coach and go to Oklahoma for a weekend of R&R.

As they were driving along the Interstate when the driver decided he needed to go to the head. Right? So, he sets the cruise control and tells is buddies he'll be right back. Gets up from the driver seat and starts toward the rear. The other three say yea sure, and don't move. That MH went almost a half mile before it left the road and hit a bridge. Sadly, there were no survivors! No seatbelts used.

Guess they expected too much from the American electronics industry!

I have a eu3000 and it runs everything just fine. A little heavy, to be sure - but I've never had a problem getting help to get off the bed of the truck ... at least so far!

Generators

I purchased a Yamaha 2800 and it is so quiet we have to check to see if it is running. It will run the AC & Microwave and any thing else we need to included blowers for grooming the dogs.

We do a lot of dogs shows and they really stick it to you for electricity on the show grounds. :(

I really wanted one of those eu3000i's when I was buying a genset to run the ac on my tt, but when I went to one of the local dealers and plugged it in, it wouldn't start my ac! A lot of you guys are running yours on a 2000, and mine wouldn't start on a 3000, go figure. Maybe my ac unit is old and decrepit. I ended up buying a yamaha 6600. It's noisy and obnoxious, but it does the job. Which, when it gets hot enough for me to want the ac, is important.
