Tire Upgrade

5er trailer angle- what's better

I ordered a EU3000 from Alamia in Denver after 3:30 pm Monday. It shipped truck freight on Tuesday and arrived today. Less expensive than Mayberry's, closer, and great service. I won't find out if it will start my 13. 5K BTU AC for awhile yet. I'll have it out of the box and fired up tomorrow and file a noise report, or hopefully the lack there of. I'll also see if I can get my tired old butt to lift it up into the back of the 4X4 as well.

My 3000is runs my A/C without any problems - so far. Noise is almost non-existant in the quiet mode. Lifting it on the other hand is a PITA. I can do it by myself but it's a bit akward.

Brian, please do report. I've been wanting to try one on our 98 TrailsWest horse trailer with a 13. 5k btu ac.

We've been using a low end 5k (peak) Coleman generator (with a homebuilt reverse flow exhaust system, lol) and the ac pulls it down pretty good when the compressor kicks in. Kinda scared me away from the Honda.

Good luck, RJR

3000k Honda

I just upgraded from a 2000K to a 3000K and tested it in the driveway. My 5ver has a 15K unit on the roof. I tried it with the normal stuff already running, fridge, fan, ect. The Honda started the air and ran it smoothly. However, when I flipped the AC unit on and off a few times, the generator overloaded. When I checked the manual on the AC unit it said not to cycle the air off and on quickly. The reason they gave was that the compressor builds up pressure, and it takes a few minutes for the pressure in the compressor to equalize. Given that, the Honda started and ran the air smoothly at about half throttle. The start up was definitely full throttle.

The only issue I am having with the Honda is that it is a little too tall to fit under my folding bed cover :{ I am probably going to mount a platform on the back of the 5ver and mount the Honda in a tool box. Other than that, I am really happy with the Honda.....

the 3000 honda will almost certainly run any 13. 5 btu ac. heck the 2000 MAY also. I just ordered the 2000 from the same place and I have a 13. 5 I think. I am hoping it will run the ac alone. we shall see. The 3K I would bet money will run your ac no prob

Yeah, I figured I would drill a bunch of 1-2" holes around the bottom to allow air flow. Now I just need to find a tool box big enough... ...

Not much to report. The only trouble I've had is my own fault - didn't train the carb float bowl and let it sit for a couple of months. The ECO operation mode would 'hunt' and not idle correctly. Cleaning out the carb solved the problem.

Otherwise the only comments I get are "is that thing running?"

I use the Honda 3000 on my 4 Star and it will run and start a/c with no problems. I turn up the thermostat when we use the microwave to prevent the compressor from starting. Very quiet for us and fellow campers as well. I just store it it the rear tack area. I have a mid tack to keep all of other camping stuff so it works great for us. It sure is a whole lot quieter than the Kubota I have!

Noone was more disappointed than us but the Honda 3000 let us down. We have a Wildcat with a 13. 5 btu a/c. The Honda went overloaded almost every time. I could turn on the fan first then switch the a/c switch to on and sometimes it would be ok. Once started the unit would support many things but it couldn't handle the spike. The dealer allowed us to return the generator. I wouldn't recommend it since it seems that the Honda is borderline enough to run the a/c units. Some report no trouble and others say they won't work at all. The Honda was so very quiet it was nice but I wish they would make a unit with 4000 watts. I bought a loud one from Home Depot 4000 watts to get me by but I would recommend getting an Onan but they are pricy.

I have a 3000 honda and it works great but it will not run

our A/C unit on our travel trailer. I know that Honda makes

an adapter so that you can combine two 3000 watt genies togeather. Giving you 6000 watts instead of 3000 but @120 volts only. You can do it with there 2000 watt units

also which is the best way to go. 4000 watts should be enough to run an A/C unit. There alot lighter .

I wouldnt advise lifting the Honda 3000 by yourself.

To much chance of runing your back.

take care

Mike

I was wondering, for those of you who state your a/c overloaded the gen, what connection were you useing? The house connection or the 30amp hubble connection. The amp draw is very large and could overdraw the house connection. I have the 3000 and 3 teenage daughters, I've had the a/c on along with tv/dish and micro no problems at all in 2. 5+ yrs.

At the Tampa RV show I saw a new generator company called AutoStart Generator corp. www is www.autostartgenerators.com. They had a enclosed 5k for about $2k. I asked them about db when running full load. Was also diesel.

Just a thought,

Bob Weis

According to their website, the noise level is 73db. That's pretty noisy. My Onan is 66 db.

Peak amp draw when starting a motor driven unit like the A/C can take two to three times the running amperage. Some A/C units are more efficient and will start easier than others. 3,000 watts is marginal for the start. It would be best, if possible, to borrow one and try it first.

All this is very good info concerning the Honda 3000 . For those who have one and it just doesn't seem to start the ac compressor check to see if you have a hard start capacitor. I just about threw my 3000 away after it would not run my 13. 5 Coleman. After some long conversations and some deep research I realized I needed a $8. 00 Hard Start capacitor. Now I have no problems with the ac runs great even during the hottest part of the Texas summers. If you call the mfg. they will most likely send you the capacitor for free.

we were told to buy two eu2000's and loop them together with the kit they sell. 47 lbs each and on days you dont need air you can just pack one along. or just run the one etc.

keep that in mind while you're shopping too

Sorry to hijack your thread here but just wanted to let you all know about Autostart generators.

I bought the 5000 watt gas model and am pretty pleased so far. the price was right, he threw in the RV pigtail and it came with the wheel kit. it shipped and i recieved it in two days to my commercial address. that's about two days faster than i expected.

thanks for the good word and link to them.
