Noticed garage floor where truck is parked has oil under where bellhousing is located. It appears that oil is comming out of a small hole at the bottom of an inspection or service plate (?) on the housing. Is this a rear main seal leak or could it be oil from puke bottle? Truck has 10,000 miles. :confused: :{

Diesel Boy, inspect real well that oil is ONLY coming from that cover. If it is, chances are great it is you rear main. If the pan is moist or wet it is probably the pan gasket.

If it's the puke bottle, it will be wet from the front of the engine... ..... usually. You can always run die through it and be sure.

Good luck

same problem

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the rear main seal because when we replaced the clutch there was no evidence of an oil leak. I know it's not coming from the puke bottle because I have it relocated to the back end. guess I'll try snugging up the pan bolts. I am somewhat concerned about doing that because it's been my experience that when doing that you can make the leak worse :eek:

Oil Pan Leak

If it turns out to be a oil pan leak and your truck is still under warranty then you are in luck. There is a TSB out on the pan leaking. I don't have the number on it but I'm sure someone will have it. The stealer will pull the pan and silicone the rear half of it and replace. Leak fixed.

Good luck. Gene-C

I've read here that the stealer can't just drop the pan to fix it, but has to yank the whole engine. :eek:

Can you imagine how many other things those monkeys can screw up doing this? :mad:

I think I'd try tightening up the bolts myself FIRST before letting a stealers monkeys screw up my truck. :-{}

Well, they don't have to yank the whole engine, but removing the transmission makes it a lot easier, or so I've heard.

I have a leak too, and Batman just had his oilpan gasket replaced. Must be the result of BOMBing. :-laf

No Wheaties (nice try) it's a result of TSB 09-006-01.

Yes, they removed my transmission and had to jack the passenger side of the engine 7".

Here's what they F$%ked up:

Exhaust was rubbing against the chassis, over-filled my transmission, loose oil filter, didn't plug in wiring on my front differential, oil spilled everywhere. :rolleyes: The S^ck!

Batman, after reading that I think all live with the oil leak. :eek:

I cringe every time I had to take my truck to the dealer. I think they'd see me coming, and tell the rookie "here comes your test truck dude". It's unbelievable some of the mistakes they can make. one time I got my truck back and they over filled the engine oil by 1 qt. . :mad:

Cliffman, I hear you, I was real aprehensive about taking my truck in. But, I didn't want to tie up any of my friends shop for 1-2 days. Next time, I'll do it on my back:eek: :{

This may sound off the wall, but mine did that after about 2500 miles. Believe it or not it was my oil fill cap. The O-ring gasket got pinched and it was letting a small amount of oil run down the valve cover crease line and off the back of the motor. I even took it to the dealer and they couldn't find it. Since the engine was so clean it was hard to see the oil with a black valve cover. It's worth a shot...
