I am leaving for my 10 day honeymoon on Mon.
3-5. My 18 yr old stepson is home alone with my '98. 5 isb, auto. Is there a simple & easy way to disable starting my truck, while I am gone?

Thanks,
Earle

If it were a 12 valve, you could uplug the fuel solenoid connector. I'm not sure about a 24 Valve.

It this a second honeymoon, or did you just get married?

Good Luck & have a good time #ad

There is a fuse box under the hood . Open it and remove the main power fuse this should disable the truck .

Wow, those were quick replies!
Hemi-dart, This is my honeymoon, just got married yesterday! This is my 2nd marriage, first one lasted 24 yrs. Been engaged 3 yrs, & have been together 5 1/2 yrs. on this one!
Great girl, I must say!

Andrew, if I take out the main fuse under the hood will that loose the radio stations or the memory in the pcm or ecm?
Altho the radio stations is a small price to pay!!

Thx again,

Earle

Forget it. Any 18 year old worth his oats will figure that one out. Remove the starter and take it with you. Unless that boy has a dam good job, he can't afford a new starter to bolt in there for a mere joy ride. #ad

If your truck is a Manual disconnect the clutch switch. If an Auto disconnect the neutral safetuy switch.

Rewire the windshield washer so it goes on whenever the key is on then reroute the washer hose and nozzle to the center of the steering wheel, fill the reservoir with red diesel dye.

I'm with Hemi, pull the plug to the fuel shutoff soleinoid, make sure it's not visablely disconnected. Happy Honeymoon!!! #ad

Hey Doc,
This is my stepson, and he isn't worth his oats! If it doesn't have a joystick & hooks up to a TV, he doesn't have a clue!!

take the keys with you or give them to your trusty neighbor, if you have one, or you could remove the driveshaft(s) or pull the transmission or pull the engine-just funnin w/ ya thar-but you could just unplug something like fuel pump or ???--congrats on your wedding--good luck---chris

<font color=blue>I agree with Dee's suggestion on the netral saftey switch, would be easy for you to do but extremely hard for your stepson to fix unless he reads this post, thens he gotta figure out what the heck we are talking about #ad

Another suggestion is unplug your injection pump connection, since your truck is not brand new you don't have the "void" sticker there, so just unplug it and then make it appear as if its still plugged in, the plug I am refering to is where a VA would plug into the injection pump, big black connector.

I would say the netral safety switch is a good idea.

Or better yet K_Arts had truck truble and it wouldn't start due to a fuse being fried, let me find the post and see if he mentions which fuse.

I don't know if all 24V's are the same . . but remove the fuel pump fuse. It will never lite off, but power to all the other stuff stays in tact.

Disabling neutral or clutch switch is good idea if as you say he knows nothing of auto electrics.
Disabling the injection pump sound good.
illflem a man with a devious mind like mine. #ad

Pulling relays won't help easy to by pass.

I would disable your neutral/clutch switch and unplug injector pump and along Doc Tinker idea I would disable starter. You could leave starter on but pull the contact point in solenoid that doesn't have a steady supply of juice to it. I think this is possible with out disconnecting battery cables. Though disconnecting cable at starter mite be good idea just make sure it is not near any metal and replace it after you take contact point out and put in safe place.
You mite as well put the plunger in the same safe place. You can leave in contact point that has juice to it all the time. With out the other contact point the starter won't work.
However you decide to disable,
have a great and worry free Honeymoon!

Seriously. . Why can't you just lock it, and take all sets of the keys. I'm not being a smarta**, but I'd like to know why it wouldn't work.

Reminds me of a similar situation a couple of years ago. Parent Central (me) intercepted a call my teenage boy made to his friend. He had managed to get an extra key made and was making arrangments to skip school, pick up his friend, and my truck after we had all gone to work. Well I knew I had to catch him in the act. If it was disabled in the driveway I could not bust him. So I climbed under the truck and put a pair of vise-grips on the fuel line. The truck started and made it about 20 feet down the street before it quit. The boy spent all day tring to get it started again. Never could. I came home from work and it was still sitting there on the side of the road.
My wife and I stay up nights chuckling about it still, I can hardly wait to tell him when he is thirty.
